I think a mate of mine said it best when it comes to Defoe.

His reputation benefits so much from not playing PL football. By not being seen replicating the performances against Hull and West Ham week in-week out, he's for some reason seen by the media as a great striker, and the solution to our offensive troubles.

Just heard that JD is looking for a way out in Jan, probably on loan. WHU interested. He just wants first team football ahead
of Brazil.
Shame but not unexpected. He has never been one to sit on bench.

I don't believe that Defoe will go to Toronto, but the entire canadian broadcast media (or at leat the bit of it that covers football) appears to think that the deal is nailed on.
