Nobody is disputing that he’s falling short this season, but it’s quite alarming how so many are turning on him when it’s the first season he’s underperforming after over performing for every previous season since joining.

It is not a question of turning against him, I will support and encourage him while he is in the team - I have been there singing "we've got Ali" with all my might every game.

It’s obvious Dele has fallen well short of his normal high standards this season.

But as others have rightly pointed out, the WC, lack of a pre season and injuries have taken their toll on him this season.

Given a decent rest this summer and a proper pre season and Dele will be back to his goal scoring best.

I'm good, but I'm not that good.

Don't put yourself down mate :stop:. We'll do that for you :woot:

in a 2 behind llorente. Was his typical kind of goal, drifting off the back of the CB to head a short cross in from Eriksen

Cheers Andy. This is what people are saying, play the lad where he actually plays & we'll see the Dele that everyone was raving about in the not so distant past.

Both him and Eriksen have been damaged playing with the midfield diamond. It doesn’t let them get close enough to goal where they are both dangerous

Wasn’t the Fulham also when he injured his hamstring? I think a combination of not being fully fit and playing deeper is effecting his performance.

Getting tired of people STILL blaming WC for our shit performances this season. Almost a year ago ffs.

Something is clearly missing in our team this year, but have been hidden due to many lucky wins and other top teams have underperformed.

In 15/16, 16/17 and 17/18 we where a pack of wolves hunting with purpose- and we had no fear for any team. But every team feared us.

this year we’re a shadow of our self.

Alli is one of the players that has underperformed- and I for one can see trough a bad pass, but the heart have to be outside the sleeve with work ehtic as a bare minimum.

IMO we were in front of liverpool, and just behind city. Now, we’re miles of both of them at an average.

The irony here is that we’re in a semi final and in third yet- but that does’t mean that we can all just relax and have faith. It had been more deserved any other year IMO.

To many players in the squad not good enough.

But when you pay peanuts, you get monkeys working.

Sorry for the rant, but I miss our old Spurs off and on the ball.

Like it or not having no pre season will have a lasting affect on your entire season i.e injuries, tiredness/lack of momentum all make a difference especially as we're talking about professional sports played at a high level, so yes we can blame the WC

Its clear he is a better player that the level he is performing and demonstrating at at the moment. I think there are two reasons 1) he is being asked to play in several positions which clearly doesn't help and 2) the team itself is struggling and doesnt help when he doesnt look 100% fit.

The Diamond has been the architect of our shortfalls this season; with weaker fullbacks we're already sacrificing width. The diamond provides them with inadequate cover and plays players in the wrong position.

I hate it almost as much as three at the back this season. Our fullbacks are such a weakness.

He does look done in and needs a break to recover and get the fatigue out of his legs. This will keep repeating though if we don't provide the right level of back up in the squad. Assuming Eriksen is gone, that leaves Dele as the out and out number 10 next season, this will only work if we have more support out wide (both in forwards and fullbacks) and much better support in the DM position behind. Sissoko is the only quality in the middle this year (who would have thought that 2 years ago), when he doesn't play we simply don't have the energy in the middle of the park and the likes of Dele spend more time running back than forward - meaning he doesn't get in the positions we need him in. I hope he takes the bench on Saturday so he has some recovery in the legs for Ajax. We have to go all out for that game and risk a draw against Bournmouth at the weekend.

Weird earlier this season. In this thread even people were saying he was one of the best players of the season. Fact is he has barely had a run of games together this season, and is playing much deeper. Or course he is going to be in inconsistent.

I saw only the second half of the Ajax game because of work. And in that half there was little reason for people to think he played particularly badly.

He was dreadful in the first half, something like 8 touches in the first 1/2 hour, BUT, he was playing far too deep in CM. Jan, unfortunately getting injured, and the subsequent introduction of Sissoko, pushed him further forward and he was much more involved. Whilst he was not great in the second half, he was much better. Hes a confidence player, and the whole team is lacking in that at the moment, plus he's half the player when Kane doesn't play, as the interaction between them is great.
This season has been weird, I think pretty much the whole team can get a free pass for their performances this year (except Tripps :)), we know what hes capable of, lets see how he performs next season before writing him off

If you wanna have a go, you should be looking at Poch first. But he is even more untouchable. Either play Alli in his proper position or don’t play him at all. Playing him out of position is just hurting everyone involved.
