There seems to be a lot of debate about Dembele. I rate him very highly and he has unique qualities for a central midfielder. You hardly ever see him lose the ball because of his sheer strength and care for keeping the ball. Some would say this is a bad thing and it is to an extent as it can slow us down but at least he isn't attempting risky passes and potentially giving the ball away. Mousa almost always gets himself and the team out of tight situations with his great combination of power and technique. He's also quick and when placed alongside a natural holding player can help prevent the threat of a counter. He has a presence in midfield and it was very noticeable when he was brought on at Villa. We were suddenly winning the midfield battle and things calmed down. It can be difficult to really identify his role in the team but when he's not there we seem to lose control of things a little.

I also rate Dembele highly he has unique skill sets that are quite frankly not appreciated but when out of the team you soon notice it. He is one of the first names in my strongest starting 11.

A great player, he should score more goals though. We miss him when he isn't playing.

To all of you clueless football fans who disagreed with my Dembele comments last weekend can line up to apologise now. I will graciously accept all apologies.

Ironically Sandro's the one people are willing to make way for Capoue et al. Sandro is the best at what he does.

Dembele didn't have a great game

He's buggered, not even half the player he was last season currently. If this is because of his bloody hip then he needs to go have the surgery to fix it.

My worry is that it's Dembele not wanting to have the surgery because he's concerned about the WC, but if he's playing like that he'll both no go to the world cup and also damage himself beyond the point of repair.

With his injury problems and subsequent inconsistency, I think we should try and cash in on him while he's still worth something. Sorry, it sounds harsh, but it's true, I think he's only going to get worse from here

So annoying that we got what, one game of him before the hip injury hit?

This is the first league match he's started in a few though, Sandro does seem to be first choice there and I don't think today is going to do anything but heavily reinforce that.

We aren't using Dembele properly.

He has so much ability, and you can see he has plenty of potential in reserve to develop even further.

But what exactly is his role in our team? Is he a DM, a deep lying playmaker, a box to box midfielder... what?
Honestly at the moment he's nothing.

He has nothing to offer playing so deep, we don't need him deep at all. He could be one of our most potent offensive weapons. And that's exactly what he's always been until he came here to Tottenham... we're moulding him into some really fancy skillful DM dribbler. He's completely underutilised.

We have Sandro, Paulinho and Capoue that play where he currently does. We simply don't need him there.

Wasn't good today, but you can call anyone shit and as soon as they have a bad game come on and say yeah look at me I was right. Quite capable of putting in a big performance against City if he plays.

Jol put him into the central midfield position not AVB, and from there is where he was dazzling people for Fulham. If you look at his career before that you'll see he was a pretty unproductive player in positions further forward, despite all of his ability with the ball and physical attributes.

What has been noticeably different in the past few games he's played is how he's NOT been physically dominant or retaining possession, things he's never had a problem with before. That speaks of something more being wrong.

So tell me how many really great performances can you recall him having? And I mean consistency as well!

Pointless playing him as a DM, he doesn't play the simple balls, he always wants to beat people also he cant tackle, play him further forward or don't play him,

As a water carrier he is too slow with many holes in his bucket.

Sandro is ideal in that he uses the ball simply but quicker, and that coupled with his beastly ability to kill anything within 10 yards of him, just makes him the go to DM for me.

Dembele is clearly not fit or carrying something though as he has gone backwards massively this season. Although playing with the shadow (Paulinho) who spends more time thinking he's a support striker doesn't help.

I rate Dembele as a player but AVB is ruining him... I would play him as a free attacking midfield player and give him licence to shoot and play more forward passes to wingers and strikers. He is playing was too deep at the moment.

This season? Had great games against Chelsea, Cardiff away and he's been consistently good/decent in the majority of other games. Not one player has been consistently top notch this season bar maybe Lloris.

I don't care where Dembele plays to be honest, he has the skills to fill a few roles...............he just needs to learn to do SOMETHING productive after he ghosts around 3 players rather than run into the 4th!! Pass, shoot SOMETHING!!
