Lo Celso has played as part of that double pivot in most of his appearances for us if I remember correctly and done very well.
That's just ... false. He's done nothing of the kind, any more than Ndombele has. We don't play a double pivot to protect the defence when both of them play and not usually when either of them plays. They routinely play 10-20m, further up the pitch than Winks, Højbjerg or Sissoko. When Mourinho wants a deep block, he usually selects two of those three, with either Lo Celso or Ndombele roaming in front of them.

Clean sheets win titles, and Sissoko is a really important cog in our defensive process. He is happy to go out there and do the dirty work and it's no coincidence that both Poch and Jose rate him.

Jose has achieved the best defence in the league to date this season. I would never have believed that would be possible within 12 months. We were bleeding goals when he arrived.

Precisely why I’d sooner see the better player in Lo Celso start the game over Sissoko. I think some people think I’m being negative, I’m really not, it’s a decent result but why not aim higher when that Chelsea team are nothing special at all and were perfectly beatable

Naah...a draw was a fair result and maybe flattered us ever so slightly. Chelsea are not where they are in the league by chance. We went to Stamford Bridge and came away with a point. Could we have stolen a win..? Possibly! but they had the more dominant performance.

They've added real quality this season and will be title contenders. I know that Jose would win the title with that squad especially their additions over the last 2 transfer windows.

Win at home, win away with the occasional draw. That's our current form. I must say I only got nervous when I saw Giroud come on. Other than that I was way calmer than I thought I'd be. Rodon stepped in delightfully and other than the one slip up, was magnifiscent. I reckon most teams will now wonder if we can be broken down at all. We were one misplaced pass from possibly stealing the win. And their domination was documented by one , that's ONE shot on target more than us.

I just hope the tactics don’t bite us on the arse later in the season. We are in the mix though which is great !

Sissoko is very underrated. I agree that on the ball he is mostly terrible but off the ball he is indispensable. Guess who's covering for Aurier every time he goes forward? Guess who covered for Rodon when he went to midfield and lost the ball? As much as i love Gio there's no way he's doing anything like that

I think some people need to recognise that we don't and won't play with the same tactics every game. We now have a manager, and a squad, who adapt to the opposition every game. Sure, it would be nice to pummel teams like we did v United and Saints, but those types of results aren't going to happen regularly. As Jose said, we are still in a progression of learning and adapting to new systems and styles of play.

I have no issue whatsoever with how we play by the way. I couldn't care less if we got battered every week and still won 1-0 with a goal from a long punt up the pitch. Results are what matters and if we continue not to lose many games we will likely be close to the title come the end of the season.

We’ve all been through enough with this club to not complain about this, surely?

They highlighted Sissoko's role on MOTD and proved why he so important at the moment, suggest those who cannot see why he's being picked watch the analysis on iplayer.

? it’s my opinion. I don’t rate Sissoko. I’m allowed to state my opinion fella. I think the positive impact he has defensively is totally negated by the fact he can’t help us in an attacking sense, especially not in the role he’s playing recently where he picks the ball up very deep and can’t even make one of his bursts forward as it’s too risky. What does he then offer in terms of skill and composure in the ball and vision to play forward and build attacks? Absolutely nothing. I’m not disagreeing with anyone about his defensive impact, he’s been very good in that sense but I think his deficiencies pretty much overshadow that. Sorry for thinking Chelsea were there for the taking if we played a better player instead of Sissoko and being disappointed we didn’t win the game ? A draw is a good result but we could have won that game with more ambition and skill on the pitch

He is our combat medic. He doesn't score goals or provide assists, but his contribution is still absolutely vital to our point yesterday and our win last weekend.
Together with Højbjerg he was extremely good at preventing Chelsea from building attacks, and especially setting up runs in behind our defence. LoCelso would surely contribute more going forward, but perhaps we would lost the game 1-2 then.

Yeah it’s great analysis. Just goes to show what happens when a team is properly coached and the players follow the plan set out by the coaches.

We're top of the league, just took 4 points from Man City and away to Chelsea. But I've just been on the Bergwijn and GLC thread and we're all arguing like fk. Seriously people lighten up.

Far from comparing. But in the barcelona that won the entire midfield he had no Sissoko. His greatest defense was possession. Why can't we try something similar with Hojberg, Lo Celso, Ndombele?

Agree, but he needs to get his studs sorted out, kept slipping over way too much yesterday.
