As all the stories throughout the summer (culminating tonight on panorama) have indicated the summer is set for violence and racism a plenty.

i was just wondering if this could lead to a european ban from all competitions for Ukrain and/or Poland?

and what this may mean to us (if anything)

Too early to say I guess as we will have to wait to see what happens through the course of June. Saying that, though, I would expect they would initially look to playing matches behind closed doors etc.

Then there is also the whole match fixing scandal in Italy now as well so we could keep our fingers crossed there as well !!!

I take it there will be independent observers in and around stadiums so they cannot just deny/brush under carpet.

be kinda ironic if a club with well known Jewish ties benefited from these anti semites...

That was mental.

Poland had the largest Jewish population in Europe (perhaps the world) in 1935 and I assume that a large part of their culture today, irrespective of whether it's liked or acknowledged, is based on Jewish practices assimilated into everyday life.

This tournament is going to be a PR disaster for Eastern Europe. I can't see how a state which is reported to be as corrupt as the UKraine is can supress that level of hatred.

If anyone's going to go there for a holiday then it's probably best to wait until about September as I expect flights will be very cheap!!!

I've been to Ukraine twice. Once to Kiev, and once to Crimea. I didn't see any racism, but then again I didn't go to a footie match. The last footie game I went to was Chelsea v Spurs around 9 years ago where I did hear antisemitism gas chamber hissing.

I'm sure if the tourney was being held in England, other countries would be holding up the incidents of an English footie match, and the typical Saturday night out problems as reason why the tourney shouldn't be in England.

Are there any countries in Europe that don't have problems of this nature?

BTW the thread title is a bit unfair on most of the population.

Ukraine is a wonderful place, I have visited Kiev and Odessa many times!

There is undoubtedly violence and racism connected to football in the Ukraine as some idiots there use it to vent their frustrations that every day life deals them.

But in the main Ukrainian people are very very friendly and welcoming! I have also personally witnessed black people in bars and clubs in Kiev being warmly welcomed by the locals.

They have racism in the same way that most countries do, including us. The difference here is that we have controlled the environment inside the stadiums and they haven't managed to do so. That said I wouldn't expect many problems inside the stadiums in the Ukraine because when their police want to control a situation they don't mess about.

The fear is that there will be organised violence away from the stadiums as unlike many English hooligans they are happy to get involved in large scale violence without charging backwards and forwards!

The English will be a target for Ukrainian hooligans as they still view is as a country that can fight and they view us as number 1 for being hard, therefore to them it will be a badge of honour to fight English fans.

Probably get a good deal on some hot pro action too for those considering stag do (who plan not to take any brown mates)

perhaps that's why the locals are so upset... as every porno they see is some hot young Ukranian (and other eastern european) chick getting all her doors bashed in by some huge black member...

That was pretty mental. I knew there was racism but didn't realise it was that bad. That was sickening.

Yeah maybe. But it doesn't usually happen at a Premier League game under the eyes of police and stewards who do nothing about it.

Kentucky, I agree with everything you say but can't rep you as I'm on my phone!

Imagine the programme you could make about English cities and towns on a weekend night!

Ukraine probably is a wonderful place. And probably 99% of the population is friendly. But that 1% who are racist hooligans might/will see Euro 2012 as a perfect opportunity to make a noise and cause a real nuisance.

The interview the presenter had with the head of police was shocking. He was indenial about racism in Ukranian football. And that transfers to the stewards, who we saw do nothing when all this disgusting behaviour was going on.

And you can't compare Britain to Ukraine in this matter. That is just ridiculous. Racism/fascist behaviour is nothing in the UK compared to Ukraine.
