But can you throw the book at someone because they misheard someone due to not much exposure to the regional accent

I don't think the book should be thrown at Ramires for misunderstanding. But there must have been more than a few steps between him hearing that and an official complaint to the FA being made, and surely on one of those steps someone should have said to Ramires "are you sure he said monkey and not Mikel".

So if this is what happened, I wouldn't throw the book at Ramires, but I would definitely throw it at Chelsea...right in their nadgers as well.

Yes because its such a big accusation to make! There seems to be no evidence of what the ref said so if the players and Chelsea manage to come to the conclusion that they misheard then this should have been possible before reporting it. Any fluent english speaker within Chelsea would know how unlikely it is the ref said that and how massive it would be to report it.

Throw the book at Chelsea for something. Unless they were sure, they shouldn't have made a song and dance about it. Also, the crowd violence - which injured a steward should result in severe sanctions.

I think an immediate disbanding of the club and the execution of everyone from Roman down to the caterers should do it.

I suspect Chelsea knew there was not much in it but they know the lack of evidence will help the club beat the drum that they are not racists after terry gate where they got accused of covering up racism

I agree chelsea should be dealt with, for their actions after the match

If the complaint is simply 'Ramires thinks he heard something' then surely they could have just listened to the recordings after the match quickly and without an official complaint to hear what was said.

If you make a complaint then you should be pretty sure you know what was said. There are complaints about remarks towards both Torres and Mikel so I can't believe both were simply a case of being misheard.

I hope Chelsea are lying. I hope they are punished.

This appears to be a blatant attempt to distract the public from Terry whilst at the same time spitefully getting back at Clattenburg for what they feel cost them the match. Whatever happens, this has ensured they won't get him reffing them for a while.

Think about it, the dressing room is full of talk about how bad the ref was then Ramires, in pigeon English, says he heard something racist. Quick as a flash Chelsea make an accusation and it becomes public, which it didn't have to. Someone spoke to the press, I'm guessing it wasn't the ref or his governing body.

Above all, I don't think ANY ref in this country would contemplate saying anything contentious, let alone with racial overtones.
This smells of typical Chelsea, the most horrible club in living memory.

I wonder what grounds refs have for refusing to ref a certain game/team.

If I was head of the refs association (or whatever they have) I'd say that my refs were going to refuse to ref Chelsea games until Chelsea apologised for the false claim and until they were punished appropriately for the apparent storming of the ref's room after the game.

All of this is of course assuming that it turns out this 'mishearing' story is accurate.

Chelsea are just rotten from the top down - they lack any class or moral backbone.

Terry is their perfect figurehead.

I hate this club so much, it is clearly obvious that they went all out on this to a) try and show they are the victims and are against racism, b) were fuming at the ref after the game and wanted to make a point of it, c) wanted to deflect the fact that their fans acted like absolute scum.

I cannot believe that a club can have this little class. They need to get seriously reprimanded for this

Throw the book at Chelsea ...

I have it on good authority that this is the book in question being offered up for said 'throwage':

Chelsea drop Mata allegation due to lack of evidence to support the claim. In other news, the Pope is Catholic.

Yes you can.
They have made a serious accusation that DEMANDS you be 100% certain before making it, this could have major connotations for his career and reputation.

They should receive the same punishment as that were they proven to be lying.

.

how so? this just brings the focus of Chelsea and Racism back into view. to distract, they would have used "biased" or Corruption as the reason, certainly not Racism.

Presumably if Clattenberg's found guilty, Chelsea will be demanding the FA punish him to the same extent they did with their own employee recently. Ie not at all.

This isn't like Terry. If Clatenburg did it his career is OVER. If he didn't do it, he's still the ref that got accused of it for the rest of his career.
