Dead?

In that case I bet ya mum and £10...

So you are saying that Robbie Keane will score more league goals then Jermain Defoe in the 08/09 English Premier League season? And you would like to wager £10 at evens? Meaning that if Keane scores more goals I owe you £10 and if Defoe scores more goals you owe me £10, payable by Paypal.

To confirm the bet, quote this post and say I do.

The guy is going to score goals, sometimes spectacular, wherever he goes, I just think he had the touch of the Sol Campbell about him, loyal to the next pound note.

Bizzare, redundant comment. Has Rednapp's lolly got him scoring? No. Supply.:roll::roll:

Where we blundered was not offloading him in the summer.

And for those convinced he will score a hatful of goals, halfway through 2004-2005 we were all totally confident he would have 20+ in the league alone come the end of the season, weren't we?

If Bent was to start 8 league games in a row I would expect him to get at 5 goals but also work harder for the team. I knew the moment defoe left he would score goals I don't think there was anyone stupid enough to think otherwise. But Keane is a better player and so is berbatov. The jury is still out on whether Bent is better but the fact that Defoe couldn't forge a partnership with Keane and the fact that he had 2 years left on his contract he just had to go.

If Bent starts the next 6 games I would expect him to get 3 or 4 goals. That would push him towards double figures in terms of league goals which is still not good enough for a 16m player but is good enough considering the stop start season he has had

I really do not understand how you can come to the above conclusion? Defoe is a classy guy, who waited in the wings for 18months, and he wasn't first choice and he wanted to play first team football on a more regular basis. You cannot blame him for wanting to leave because of this.

As for Campbell, he is a **** and will always be remember as a ****.

I expect Kev gets that impression because he sold out Charlton as a kid, put in a transfer request hours after West Ham went down and all the while with us had his agent as Sky Andrew, the mastermind behind Campbell's departure.

So no, can't see why someone might possibly come to that conclusion at all.

I agree. What happened in Janaury is that we called Sky Andrew's bluff. He got away with the "oh, we'll sign a new contract soon" bullshit once before, and was hoping Levy would sit on his arse waiting around again allowing Defoe (and Sky) to earn a big fat signing on fee when they moved on at the end of his contract. But Levy pulled the rug under that idea and sold Defoe on, so we ended up with £9m in the bank and not fuck all as Sky Andrew intended.

In life you can gain a reputation through association. Defoe's association with Sky has tainted him a little. I wish him all the best in his career, but I am glad we sold him when we did and didn't allow that scumbag Sky to get what he wanted.

Hadn't Sky Andrews and Defoe parted by then anyway?

everything seemed to go threw alot better after the reprts he had a new agent (although i remeber it not being any better)

Weren't they shown together in a box at the Pompey game.

On-topic, In both of MJ's first two seasons Defoe was first choice and everyone was saying Keane would leave, both times Defoe lost form, lost his place and couldn't get it back because of the form of others.

I don't think we had a choice.

With the new England boss JD realised he was never going to supplant King Keano and Count Berbatov, and I think he still rates his chances of playing for his country.

I feel sure we would never have let him go if anyone had come in for Bent...

By the way, as you seem a knowledgeable lot, some awfully decent blokes have given me a few green tokens of rep.

Does anyone know how I get them to go with the other two under my name? Not wanting to show off, but it's about as far to 'bling' as I run at the mo....

Cheers in advance.

We signed Bent in the belief that Defoe was on his way last summer—that was rumoured, and Hughton let slip that that had been Plan A some time ago. There was never any question of selling Bent.

I just don't get this boohooing over paw lickle Jermain. He was pretty ho-hum for two-and-a-half seasons and spent a lot of 2005-2006 doing Lord Lucan impersonations. It took getting left out of the England squad to buck his ideas up, but even last season he took about ten shots for every goal and blew a perfect chance to establish himself as first choice alongside Berbatov. Even after that we still had some idiots hoping Keane would pick up an injury so Defoe could get another chance. Pure genius.

Frankly, I don't believe any of this so-called commitment and loving it at Spurs. He saw us as a way to an England place.

Agree completely! And whilst Defoe has not been bad for us, Bent is a player that will work better for us in the long run, especially if he is able do adopt more to our style of play. But regardless of that, he has been doing well considering the limited number of minutes and how spread out they've been.

He has played okay for us and makes a better third choice striker than Defoe as he could play with either Keane or Berbatov.

I dont understand how people can have a go at Defoes honour and commitment to spurs. He conducted himself better than any other player at the club. Never threw his toys out of the pram (ala golden boy Keane or chimbonda), never spurted crap to the media (as bent has done recently about thinking about leaving if he doesnt get game time, and berba with his 'we'll see what the future holds') and has always committed to loving spurs.

With keane and berba he was never going to make it at spurs, and keane and berba are rightfully the 1st choice pair. But dont go on about how he was trying to shaft spurs or get a big money payday, thats just wrong.

i say good luck to him and i hope he becomes an england regular in front of owen and wallnut

He was never going to make it at Spurs because he wasn't good enough. Loving Spurs? My arse. His commitment was to himself and his England 'career', which Nasty Mr Jol and Nasty Mr Eriksson ruined. Nothing to do with Defoe being largely a waste of space through 2005-2006, and disappearing completely when Eriksson came to see him at the Lane while Barney looked as if he was the one playing his nuts off for an England place.

Any other player who was a pisspoor as Defoe was that season would have got absolutely slaughtered on here. Instead, there was massive outrage that Eriksson left him out, not massive outrage that he'd fucked off in most of the games he'd appeared in. And then he started turning it on the following pre-season 'to prove a point'. To whom? Spurs, or Eriksson. Shame he didn't turn it on for the club that was paying his wages, really.

I couldn't give a toss about him.
