Fulham striker Dimitar Berbatov is best known for his laconic artistry on the pitch, but over the last year or so he's used Facebook to show off the artistic pursuits contained in his sketchbook. At least, the ones that aren't too sensual for social media.

Join us now as we take a look inside the mind of...The Continental. These are the celebrity caricatures of Dimitar Berbatov ...

"When i see something on the web,and i like it,i try to draw it..In this case..one of my favorite hip hop artist..Snoop Dogg..if u like it,i'll put some more:)" -- April 3, 2012
Is there a resemblance between Berbatov's drawing of Snoop Dogg and himself? Either way, spelling out the name in smoke was a nice touch.

"Like i said before,if i see a picture or caricature i like,i try to draw it,to see if i can make it the same...i am just having some fun,and sharing it with you:)......This is the Greatest of them all....2pac:))" -- April 5, 2012
Clearly Dimitar's work here was influenced by the movie Coneheads.

"One of my favorite show ever..House:))" -- April 16, 2012
Ending each caption with a double smiley emoticon shows a certain vulnerability behind his work. It's also one of few things he has in common with Andrei Arshavin.

"H.H.:)))" -- April 28, 2012
Only in the mind of The Berba would 86-year-old Hugh Hefner have such well defined pecs.

Two of my favourite actors, two legendary cops:)) LDF and BW:)))" -- June 18, 2012
We've definitely seen Berbatov make that facial expression on the left before. These are the characters that have influenced his own style of being.

"Quick drawing..:))..The best movie ever..:))))hahah" -- February 25, 2013
Berbatov's appreciation for The Godfather is well known. He says he learned to speak English by watching those movies.

These are pretty good actually.

Racking my brain trying to work out who the hell LDF is. Turns out its a French actor, Louis de Funès.

Right, wtf is going on here. Hansen used the exact same adjective to describe Berba's style at the weekend. It was wrong then and it's wrong now.

Either the author is just repeating Hansen's misplaced use of the of the word without bothering to check the definition, or the meaning of 'laconic' has changed at some point over the past week.

laconic

(of a person, speech, or style of writing) using very few words:his laconic reply suggested a lack of interest in the topic

I think he is mimicking Marlo Brando's character Don Corleone from The Godfather.

remember, synonyms aren't like for like - to most people laconic has a certain flavour - insouciance, arrogance. So when you apply it Berbatov's play-style it fits nicely.

edit: of course, he may have meant lazy, who knows with these people. I still maintain that the proliferation of the word 'cute' in football commentary came from Alan Smith misunderstanding 'acute'.
