I'm glad someone did that, Moyes gets a lot of praise for doing things on a shoestring, but they money he has had he has spent on gash. £9m on Bilyaletdinov!? Fuck me. And I'm sure they may have even spent more on Saha, not that it matters much.

But we have stronger backers than Everton. They really aren't in a position to spend hardly any of the money they got for Rooney and Lescott whereas we have always been in a position where we could spend without selling.

We have spent wisely but our financial situation was much stronger than Everton's.

Good work - the money spent on each of last night's starting XI's only tells half the story though.

We've also been able to spend money on some crap and then spend more money on upgrades/replacements without always having to ship out the crap first.

Moyes has had to make his signings work and then stick by the ones who, like Bilyaletdinov for example, don't meet the required standards.

To be fair though that doesnt include other squad members, I am sure it would add a substantial total to our bill.

I agree that Moyes cant really complain about money, every time he has spent big it hasnt gone well.

Interesting stuff

Even better would be a look at the cost of both squads

Where did you get your data from? Because I thought either one or both of Heitinga and Distin were free

I used the ever reliable wikipedia lo and i did look in a few other placesl. i know squads would prob make a big difference but moyes was acting like our starting 11 cost 100's of millions and it doesn't and our squad has players like king and gallas that were also frees and parker wasn't a huge outlay. the only one i couldn't find a value for was Saha is it was undisclosed. it was only meant to highlight that our starting 11 cost no more than theirs and not the 100's of millions moyes was banging on about, even dawsons 4 mill isn't accreute as it was a combined with andy reid for 8 and he was the one we really wanted and dawson was just chucked in the deal he was prob closer to 2-3m and walker and naughton was a combined 9m too.

Here's the site for Transfer fees for all Premier League Clubs: http://www.transferleague.co.uk/premiership-transfers/everton-transfers.html

Here's a thread I made a month or so back which contains all the online resources people need for this kind of thing: http://www.spurscommunity.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=80187

Anyway, according to Transfer league Everton spent £4m on Distin and £6m on Hetinga, but £10m on Bilyiwhatsisname.

No, I knew your purpose and wasn't having a real go as the basic premiss is sound. Just have a clear memory of Moyes selling Lescott (for £24 M I think), and getting Heitinga and Distin (for a pittance - like I said, I thought free or little) and thinking it was pretty good whealer dealing...is all. Just looking for clarification. Not having a go

i wasn't suggesting you were having a go just clarifying my point in case of confussion. The rest of our squad is just around 77m wheres as evertons come in around 5m. I just didn't like the way we were be banded around like we did a man city, when we haven't. liverpool spent 57m on two players but you dont see reports harping on about how much they have spent

Just done the figures using the site I quoted and it came out like this:

Everton

Howard - 3
Neville 3.5
Heitinga - 6
Distan - 4
Baines - 6
Donavan - Loan
Bilyaletdinov - 10
Cahill - 1.5
Fellani - 15
Anichebe - Free
Saha - Free

Total £49m

Spurs
Friedel - Free
Walker - 3
Dawson - 4
Kaboul 5 (though considerably less if you combine the fees paid less those got)
BAE - 3.5
Lennon - 1
Livermore - Free
Modric - 16.6
Bale - 6
VDV 8
Ade - Loan

Total 47.1m

No worries. Like I said, I have more of a memory that selling Lescott (it was £24 million, wasn't it?), and getting Distin and Heitinga was pretty smart. The exact amount was secondary, but I thought at least one of them, probably Distin, was on a free.

The fact is, financially we are punching above our weight. Each year our wage bill is considerably less than Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool and recently of course, Man City's is higher than anybodies.

Arsenal's before our CL campaign was regularly almost exactly double ours. Our net spending is not among the highest but we should acknowledge that when we are in trouble we can always spend big without worrying about financial ramifications like clubs like Everton have to.

From Everton's point of view they are going to see us as 'cheque book Charlie's' as compared to them we are.

Compared to who we are competing with though, we are doing very well.

Two points about the we have spent a lot crap.

1. We spend less then half on wages than all the top clubs.

2. We bought players young and they are coming good now, teams need to do one if they are going to complain about that.
