Do we want Russia to win?

I am confused on this one. If Russia go out (as they are currently on course to at 2-2 agg) , Pav's main reason/excuse for leave disappears. On the other hand a strong Russia is a good shop window for selling him and it seems strange to want a spurs player to do badly.

Personally I like having him at spurs (as long as he is prepared to work hard for his chances when he comes in). So if it keeps him at spurs til the end of the season I'm happy for Russia to go out.

do we know his main reason for wanting to move would be to get into the world cup squad? At the moment he is still in the first 11* and isn't getting games.

Maybe he just wants to be playing football more regularly, and that would still mean he would want a move

* and now he has been subbed at HT....

I could have sworn he actually stated that he needed to be playing in the lead up to a WC. In any case I doubt it would be his only reason but it must play a part.

Russia are a good team. Quite sad. I know its been said many times but the European qualification for the WC is ludicrously hard.

What have we been doing to our players btw. First Croatia and now Russia!

Anyone know if was injured? Flicked over briefly to see the score towards end of the game and Im sure i heard the commentator say he was taken off at half time! So wondered if that was down to injury or him playing poorly!

Pav has never convinced me, honestly couldn't care if he left

I thought England were looking pretty weak upfront but Russia ....

It really is sad , even our England B-team strikers are better than their Russian A-team colleague .

As far as I know (been trawling Russian sport sites), Hiddink must have thought that Pavlyuchenko will not be have enough energy in the 2nd half after playing almost the whole match on Saturday and the first half today as a lone striker, considering his bad lack of match practice this season.

To me it proved to be a wrong decision, as without Pavlyuchenko Russia looked really short of ideas and focus in attack.

i wanted Russia to win. i think when they're on it they're one of the best pass and move sides and little Smurfshavin would be an asset to the competition.

he other lot are organised and technically good but lack the excitement so i'm not sure they're an good enough subsitute in terms of a spectacle in the world cup. shame.

I wonder if Hiddink will leave soon. I wonder what the odds would be on him going to Liverpool

I am sure he would argue that if he had had regular football he would have been fitter, quicker and better focused to support his team mates, but I guess that is just his side of the story.

I'm guessing by the rest of your comment that the highlighted part is how you sign off these days.

For fuck sake, of course he whinged. He signed over a year ago as one of the top scorers at an international tournament, a good reputation in Europe, and a combination of the longevity of his settling in period and the general turmoil around the club mean that, while other slow starters (Modric, Corluka, Gomes) have received the chances they needed to get out of their rut and prove themselves, he has watched 3 strikers signed moved ahead of him in the pecking order, and only has about half an hour, when we're desperate like v Birmingham, every 4 or 5 matches, to prove himself.

I'm not saying we are at fault for trying to progress with the minimum risk, but he's entitled to feel hard done by.

We don't have space for for, "recognised" "regular" "15m" what ever you want to call them, Strikers - we didn't need Crouch, and the moment we signed him, the writing was on the wall for Pav - Not sure why Harry didn't like him, I did, and I think he had more to offer the team than Crouch.
But my opinion is irrelevant, it is Harry and how he wants to play that is important, and if Pav doesn't fit into those plans, he's gone! I just hope he learns from the mistake (if it was one and not planned) and doesn't by another (see above) type striker!

I would disagree he has more to offer than Crouch. Crouch is a proven goalscorer at this level. He's also proven to work well in a partnership, specifically with a little man like Defoe or Keane.

Pav's workrate was questioned last season, many said "give him a break! he's knackered!" I didn't believe it then and I don't believe it now. His workrate and motivation has again been questioned this season, with both Harry and Hiddink both at a loss to how you get him going.

He was poor against Doncaster, rubbish touch, wasteful shooting and did not put in any effort off the ball. He scored, but with a scuffed shot after the game was already won.

If you can't raise your game when you're given a chance, then you have no hope.

It's interesting to note that people want to keep Pav but want rid of Bentley. The latter has at least shown he can still play on two occasions this season.

Like I said, I have no issue with our treatment of Pavlyuchenko, but I also have no issue with him feeling hard done by. He has every right to feel like he deserved more of a shot, and we had every right to feel that we neded players we already felt we could rely on rather than hang around waiting for him.

My gripe was only with the over the top criticism of Pav for having a moan. From his point of view, he is an international striker who is clearly not a part of his managers thinking.
