It's not hard though is it, just do something else with your time instead, your life will go on, football will go on and Spurs will go on!

Love Spurs, but not the game any more. Probably because I hate gossip, hype and hysteria - football is more like a soap opera these days.

Stopped buying papers, watching every game etc about 18 months ago; have far more time for other interests and less stressed by it all in general.

That said, Spurs are still one of the two things in the world that can make or break my day, the other being my wife! :)

I love spurs. Have done for as long as I can remember, always will. However, totally understand what you are saying. I only started supporting in the early nighties and although I still follow every single game, I find myself slightly disillusioned. I think it's got something to do with the following:

1. It's not just spurs! It's football in general. It's changed a lot in the last decade. In some ways for the better (more awareness about racism, less hooliganism etc). However, I feel that it's mainly for the worse. Many footballers come across as overpaid morons, cheating is rife and billionaire owners have literally made success more about money than ever.

2. We've reached our current limits. I actually really like Levy and Enic. Watching our club go from mid table relegation candidates to a pretty good team has been a hell of a ride. The best thing is that it's been done in the 'right' way. The business has been managed well and players with great potential have been brought through the ranks. When we reached the champions league, that was a pinnacle. A great achievement for all involved! However, I can't help but feel that we've reached our limit under Enic. A good club that has the ability to finish 3rd-6th each season. Now this is no slight to Enic. The football landscape has changed considerably since they started. Imagine if there had been no billionaire toy clubs come along in the middle of our development. For me the real disillusion is the realisation that the only way to push forward is to become the plaything of a billionaire owner and stop doing things in the 'right' way. The choice between this or levelling out isn't a great one in my opinion.

3. The fans. This may be slightly controversial but I really don't like
our fans anymore. I went to the City game, and even before the sending off the atmosphere was poisonous. E.g. Bentaleb is a young kid who we should be supporting with his every touch of the ball. Instead, I could only hear negative insults thrown his way throughout the match. This does nothing except hurt his confidence and make the whole atmosphere terrible. This is an example of something which happens throughout the match. Maybe I was unlucky in where I was sitting but it seemed that hurling abuse at the players was more important than starting a chant and backing the team. For the first time ever, I wished I was watching at home rather than being surrounded by self entitled idiots. Maybe it's always been like this and I was just sitting in better positions but the atmosphere definitely seems to have got more poisonous over the last decade. Incidentally, the most successful of our time in the premier league.

Anyway, I really hope that it's a phase I'll grow out of but my love of football and spurs is still there but threatening to wane.

My love for the game started to wane/ die the minute a certain traitorous centre half made a short journey across town ...

It's never really recovered since then ...

I think there is so much wrong with such a simple game, talking from a premiership perspective and a national team perspective, because that is my connection ie Spurs and England. How must it feel being a Spurs player or an Everton player or even a Liverpool player knowing you are years away from having a shot at the title? As a fan seeing the FA cup lose it's value seeing a European trophy (the Europa League) lose it's value. Fans being shafted, having an un united fan base within the stadium, moaners, tourists, boyfriend and girlfriend, along with people who want to sing but are vilified. Foreign players with no connection to an area. A governing body who are spineless. Television companies with more clout than said governing body. A poisinous media who build up and knock down expose and shame. A national team full of so called role models who take up inches of newspaper space for off the field scandal.

I just can't buy into it anymore ..
Very much so! Good post.

All of the above is why I now get more enjoyment from my other team. League 2 is so much more real and how football used to be. For instance last Saturday I went away to Bristol Rovers, lost 3-1, got soaked, absolutely frozen but had a great laugh - stood with 1200 other drunk blokes on a crap terrace laughing and singing!

Before anybody says, no I don't want to see Spurs drop out of the PL and I would love us to achieve top 4/CL success/PL title etc.
I love Spurs and always will do. I'll never lose interest and the club's fortunes will always be intrinsically linked with my own, but, its just changed so much

My love for Spurs will never change - its been apart of my life since before I knew it was a part of my life

I had my first Spurs shirt the day I was brought home from hospital

It goes way beyond football to me - its family, part of my blood. My dad is Spurs to the core, my grandad was Spurs to the core

Nothing will have change how much I love Spurs - I think when you love a club its a part of your life forever

I try and convince myself I don't care anymore, but no matter what, the first thing I do when I get up is scan the web for stories about us, good or bad. And that continues throughout the day.

I am always there 60 mins before ko looking out for the team news, I always want to hear what excuse Tim will use this week etc etc.

Someone mentioned earlier, it's not Spurs I have fallen out of love with, but football generally.

I detest the cheating/diving/feigning injury thing that seems to be the norm now.
I hate the money being paid to average players.
I hate the corporate love-in the clubs now focus on.
I hate the way things like stu-hub are seemingly implemented without thought for the long term fan.

So many things, and so much wrong.

And yet, here we are, still on a Spurs website, still talking about it. And so it will continue.

I can't stop now. I was born a couple of months after the Double, first game at the lane age 5 in 1966. Seen it all, good and bad.

I actually think I had more "fun" when we dropped to Div 2 and were trying to come back. Great days, superb camaradary(sp). Fans didn't argue with fellow fans like we do now.

No, I detest so much about football, but you don't stop loving the club.

Sadly, I suspect the current owners know that, and milk it to the extreme.

Hey-ho.

I think if you fall into the whole trap of seeing the race for the top four as the be all and end all of each season, then it can be a draining and deflating experience. We've been dealt our share of heartache over the past three seasons, and the job at hand is damned near impossible in this league with our financial limitations.

Thus, the general state of football and the importance of said finances become more acute to us Spurs fans, as we watch our nearest competitors spend spend spend. I'll admit that this wore me down somewhat first half of this season and I had more apathy to football in general.

It is cathartic to stop caring about the top four so much and go back the way to enjoying the many other hundreds of things about football and our club that you can enjoy though. A slight adjustment of expectations if you will. Once you release that monkey from your shoulders the weight is lifted off and the apathy dwindles.

There you go - a serious answer for the OP.

Yes, and even if I tried, I couldn't stop.

I am growing rather tired with the.. Process. Still I couldn't stop caring. Every single week there's a chance for complete and utter ecstasy or the deepest despair. I think that in the modern world, it's sport, not religion, that is the opiate of the masses. Perhaps not just sport, sport as a sub-component of mass media and entertainment. You read about it all week, form an opinion, and then get your 90 minute plus stoppage time fix.

I def. still care, but am just a bit disillusioned with having Tim in there. Even though his results have been good, something just isn't sitting right with me... Just have a feeling that things aren't particularly rosy behind closed doors at THFC.
