Watching Willian for Chelsea last night reminded me how pleased I was that we got gazumped for a player I thought was overpriced and overrated, so I thought i'd open a thread on the players we were linked with that in retrospect we are delighted we didn't get.

Personally I was a huge fan of both Jose Bosingwa and Yuri Zhirkov who we were linked with at one time and went on to less than stellar careers with Chelsea. On the other hand I was very much on the "F**K NO!" side of the proposed 'Bale + money for Downing' exchange which would have made the Spurs we know today look like one of those dystopian futures where the Nazis had won the war.

So from Fernando Morientes to Carlton Cole and any others, which 'bullets with our name on' do you most remember us 'doing a Neo' on, and which side were you on?

Willian has only had one game. Only ever saw highlights of him in the cl so can't judge.

Bullets dodged. Dean sturridge, andy jonson. Loads of foreigners that get hyped on here and die a death. 99% Of spurskings recommendations.

Oh I don't know. We could have had the most exciting team in the Skrill Premier Division. :D

Then, almost every bullet hit the bullseye for us.

True enough

Our recent big-money spends (£10m+) have usually turned out well; Modric, Berbatov, VDV, Bale, Lloris, Verts, Demeble (could also add in Keane, Defoe and Kaboul - they all played their part).

Eriksen, Lamela, Paulinho and Soldado look good too, although we'll judge them after a season.

Only notable flops are Bentley and to a greater or lesser extent, Pavlyuchenko

Although Willian didn't exactly tear it up last night I can't help but think this thread is a little OTT. We've all mentioned that Chadli shouldn't be judged too harshly, too early and Soldado is hardly shitting goalkeepers up with his van Persie-esq ability.

I wouldn't say it was a bullet dodged, but if not getting him was the catalyst for going all out for Eriksen then it was definitely a stroke of luck and certainly a scenario I think levy would've been more than happy with. And this is from me, who questioned Willian's quality when we were linked with him.
