Maybe he wasn't intending it to be a criticism of the players, but more him blowing his own trumpet, about how good his motivational skills and man management are?

It's classic Redknapp. He can't say we are title contenders one minute and then moan when we expect a CL finish.
He can say what the fuck he likes tbh. This comment is only speaking the truth. Probably in response to someone saying were now falling behind in the race for 4th spot and he's just trying to put some perspective on the whole situation.

Err yeah, sure he can, but we can also think he's a backtracking prick for it as well.
He spouts bull about us being title contenders, then reverts to his 2 points 8 games crap when the team starts performing to an unacceptable standard.
He's full of shit and needs a slice of humble pie.
From December....''We're not a team that you can write off and go, 'They're going nowhere, are they? Even if you're one down, we're always going to make plenty of opportunities and it's a case of sticking them away. I just feel we've got a belief in there that we can come from behind.''
and
"Of course we've got a chance. How can I sit here and say we can't when we've beaten Liverpool and won at Arsenal? If it's only Chelsea or United who can win it, why are we bothering? Chelsea, a month ago, looked absolute certainties but they're struggling to get results. They'll get stronger when they get some key players back, but so will we."
and
"I don't know if the players believe it,I've said: 'Listen, there's no reason why we can't have a go.' I said last year we should target the top four. I'm not going to say we'll win the championship now, but we've got a chance. Arsenal and Manchester City have a chance, too. Chelsea and United are favorites, but nothing's impossible."
"we are massive outsiders - 33-1 or whatever - and that's about right I suppose.
I keep saying it's open this season, and it's not impossible. You have got to believe you can achieve something.
It's there for someone to have a real crack at it this season as there is very little between the top five or six teams.
We're playing as well as anybody, and we've people who could get in any team - (Gareth) Bale, (Luka) Modric, (Rafael) van der Vaart.
We've some quality players throughout the team. We've a good squad.
The main aim is obviously to get into that top four again, to get back into the Champions League.
But if you have a good run, you don't know where it can take you. It's happened before."
I don't see he has said anything but an open and honest assessment of where we are at any particular place in time. He's not written us off and he's never said we will win the title. He has been realistic. I also think these comments will have an echo of Daniel Levys comments ringing in his ears. Trying to rationalise the move to the OS for the good of the club and the future success. Come on people...wake up.“Suddenly, Spurs have got to be a Champions League team, but this side are not a million miles away from the team I took over who were fighting relegation,
Now everyone is saying if we do not get into the Champions League it is a disaster. It was a miracle last time, so fifth place would not be a disaster. Of course, I want to get in the top four, but it isn’t a disaster if we don’t.
You have got to be realistic. If you want to finish in the top four, it is very difficult. Man United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City – how are they going to be out of the top four when they keep buying the best players in the world? It is going to be very hard, but we still have a big chance.
We are fifth favourites with the bookies, but I think we are massively fifth favourites.
If you want to be a top club, you have to keep bringing in top players and they are not easy to find. Top players demand top money. They want £100,000-odd a week and it is not easy to find that sort of money, especially when you have a stadium which only holds 30,000-plus.”
Full of shit?

I don't know about unacceptable but it is a bit pathetic. It's like going back to the two points after eight games stuff- true but mentioning it all the time just seems insecure.
Do you think he has got one of those "World's best boss" trophies in his office? and that he bought it himself? Not that i don't think he is great- I do but the point is that he should allow other people to make those judgements or risk sounding like David "I'm a miracle worker really" O'Leary when he was in charge of Leeds.
Where is that taken from? rather alarming considering he was saying we are in the title race a week or so ago.....
Last few results haven't been great. A reminder to the players not to get complacent? What's the problem?
