Does anyone in our team excite you?

Yes? Lloris, Chiriches, Eriksen, Sandro, Adebayor and yes, even Soldado. We do often play a lot better when Soldado is on the pitch because of his fantastic link-up play, he is one of the few players who actually try some spectacular stuff.

We're getting well above our station here. This is a very expensive squad we've assembled. Each of our new aquisitions are very tallented players and we've seen that from all of them, in bursts, whether from paulinhos goals, Eriksens set peices and goals, chadlis goal, Chiriches waltzing throuvh midlfeild and some deft defending, some of soldados lay-offs are superb, Capoue looks a strong dcm who probably needs a run in the team, and Lamela, well, we live in hope.
They all excite me, at least they've all had their moments. It doesn't stop there. Dembele excites me, not his goal threat but his close control runn8ng at defenders, Vertonghen is a wonderfully balanced silk and steel defender, Kaboul, the idea of him coming back nearly excites me most. Rose, going forward obviously (look at the career of glen johnston, he CAN learn to defend, ditto walker.
While we can glory the good for these players we can't overlook the two at the top and bottom. lloris and adebayor are 2 worldies playing on form. We kind of know we've always got a chance with them in the side. Interesting that the debate makes our lack of creativity the main talking point rather than goals for or against. It shouldn't be. All of our attacking players have real talent that is reflected in the rest of the team. It isnt the players, it must be something else.
It struck me that, watching man u last night, we had exaxtly the same problem. No one was making decisions in midfield. Carrick and cleverly were both excellent at rotating the ball but there was nothing through fhe middle. Carrick is one of the best passers in the league but you rarely see it except the neat sideways strokes that characterise his play these days. His real abilitlies shine out on the counter where he has ability to hit passes to men in dangerous positions. you need to generate a lot of turnovers to really see the best in him. We don't zee it be ause they dont have a cm who can force turnovers in their team. We do. And we have plenty of personel to make the best of a counterattacking system. Therein lies the fallacy of no dcm, in short we've too many cheifs.
This isn't an attack on the Sherwood regime. Even if he is temporary he has steadied the ship, given them a bit more confidence and kept it respectable. We're 5th. It coiuld be a lot worse.
To get back to the OP, eventually, a lot of our players excite me but our play doesn't. It needs the energy of a raging bull in cm. Someone who terrorises the midfiled and makes people make mistakes, turns an opponents midfield back to defence.
God we miss Sandro.

Bale was brilliant. of course. But he never 'excited' me, i don't htink he had the force of personality to do so

Hmmm, maybe another sport?

Because you could be waiting a long time for us to find a more exciting player than Bale.

Yeah i know. I just never much liked him tbh. And I think that I have only really realised quite how good he was now that he's gone ... like that Austrian bird i went out with in my 20's ....

The need for instant gratification is the source for unhappiness. Anyone who is not excited by the squad we have now is beyond me.
if only we are patient we may see the squad fulfilling their potential as a team.
I must be out of my mind expecting modern fans to be patient. Levy is the biggest culprit of being impatient.

I think this isn't about having an exciting squad...its about what players excite on the pitch - prompting the noise level to increase. Like when Lennon/Bale were on the ball, running at full pelt. That's missing at the moment (I know Lennon is still here).

Lloris
Soldado
Eriksen
Lamela
Paulinho
Capoue
Chadli
Vlad
Verts
Kaboul
Holtby
Carroll
Fredricks
---- In fact most of our youngsters coming through, Kane included.

To a lesser extent

Townsend - has potential, but constantly makes the wrong choices, needs a better footballing brain which ultimately makes me want to slap him in the face with a used condom half the time... But has loads of potential and time is running out for him.... Oh and plays on the left :)

Walker - Very good, still needs to work on his decision making and final ball.

Ade - Yes has been playing well, but is in his third year now and has been inconsistant. Soldado and all new players get the benefit of the doubt for now, first year and all that rubbish.

Dembele - Can do some amazing runs, then cock up or forget to proved the final ball. He is great at holding on too, but the releasing side of it sucks arse.

Lennon, Dawson, Rose, Naughton all excite me when I hear their names attached to rumours taking them away from the club.

There really is a massive amount of positives, especially with quality of players we have at our disposal, especially for the right manager, when he comes along (whoever that maybe). The problems is, a lot of our problems are at the business side (football wise, on the pitch etc) side of things and we are not actually utilising those great players we have.

Earlier in the season I would get excited about Townsend running at players but unfortunately his end product lets him down. Now I expect him to have a shot blocked or to run into trouble.

Kaboul when he leads and celebrates goals like he did at Ncastle. Pure passion.

Lamela's dribble before the penalty in the Europa League was pretty much the only time I've been off my couch all season.

Oh yeah and when Holtby did that Cruyff turn. That was rad.

How about Chiriches flick and his spin? Those were 2 bits of tekkers!

edit: beaten to the flick. can't find the spin but that was cool too

Perfectly put. I'd agree with all of that. We have players in the squad that can be exciting on their day, but then again so could Ronnie Rosenthal.

Our 'star' players right now are a keeper (who sounds like he wants to leave), a defender (who sounds like he wants to leave), and a defensive midfielder (who is always injured).

Townsend.

People forgot how awesome he was before he got injured. Can't wait to see him back to full fitness

Lennon when we play Utd, because somehow Evra makes him look like Messi every time.
