"France keeper Lloris put Spurs troubles to one side"

HELSINKI (Reuters) - France captain Hugo Lloris has pushed aside speculation about his prospects at his new club Tottenham Hotspur as he prepares for Friday's World Cup qualifier against Finland.
Goalkeeper Lloris joined the English Premier League club on a four-year contract last Friday for more than 10 million pounds from Olympique Lyon but may struggle to immediately claim a starting spot with manager Andre Villas-Boas vowing to keep faith with in-form American Brad Friedel.

"I am a professional and I can put all this aside," an unusually uncommunicative Lloris told reporters on Thursday.
"I'm only and entirely focused on France. I've played enough matches in the past to be able to manage this.
"I've heard a lot during the preparation (for France). I prepared myself for these qualifiers as well as I could with Olympique Lyon," he added ahead of their Group I opener against Finland and Tuesday's qualifier at home to Belarus.
Lloris played the first three games of the season with Ligue 1 club Lyon before signing for Spurs on transfer deadline day.
Villas-Boas, who took over as Tottenham manager in the close season, said Lloris would have to fight to dislodge Friedel, who was superb in the 1-1 draw with Norwich City last weekend.
"When you transfer it's not written in the contract that you have to play," the Portuguese coach said.
"At the moment, Brad is doing extremely well. He deserves to be playing and he'll continue to do so."
France coach Didier Deschamps said this week he did not have a problem with the situation since Lloris was not eligible to play for Spurs last weekend and so was not second-choice keeper.
"If he becomes a substitute, then we'll see," he said.

Why didn't AVB just say 'we will have to see' when this came up?
He is going to have to be a bit more savvy with the media.

Sorry but I have no idea what this thread is about...?

Hopefully I'm not the only one but any chance of a briefing to make it clearer?

It'd be awesome if AVB ever finds major success at Tottenham he just looks into the camera one day, throws up his two middle fingers and simply says "You can all get to fuck now."

Like Fergie does at least once a season at Man United.

Hugo has to be pretty pissed off. He's not even made a sub appearance despite not being available for any games yet.

Tottenham are a joke and so is AVB for this.

Haha :D

But anyways..... what is the issue?? AVB praised Brad for a MOM display and said that Hugo would have to fight for and win his place.

Rightly so.

I don't understand how that relates to not being "media savvy" in any way.

Gonna give you some positive rep anyways Steve cos you got so bashed in that AVB thread you started.

I think you deserve it if only for your avatar which makes me read all your posts with the voice of Alan Partridge.

Ah ha :)

Sorry Kendall, but I'm completely confused by this. How or why are Spurs and AVB a joke for this? Indeed, a joke for what???

Maybe I've missed something, but as far as I know the ONLY story that has come out about Lloris was Deschamps shooting his mouth off in a clearly biased way with his own France agenda.

At the end of the day Lloris spent practically the whole of deadline day at holly House before signing. To me that indicates fairly lengthy negotiations, of which none of us were privvy to. But no matter what faults Levy or AVB have, I would seriously fucking doubt they would have guaranteed him to be a nailed on starter in every match. And if indeed they did, the I seriously doubt that AVB would have walked out in front of the cameras a day later saying that Brad is our number 1. Sorry, but Lloris knows exactly what he has signed up for here.

Kendall, I may have done you a disservice. in fairness, thats why I was so confused because I know you are one of the more logical posters and not known for kneejerk statements.

I guess its still a little too early in the morning for me, and it is getting increasingly difficult to differentiate between real life and some surreal anti-Spurs life in here these days thanks to the new wave of instant success numpties that seem to have invaded the forum!!!!

Anyway, apologies.....Christ I'm a sarcastic shite too, really should have seen it a mile off!

Because there was no need for him to give the media another stick to beat him and us with. His reply IMHO should have been 'Brad was excellent!' STOP If he needed to say something some a bland reply like - we will see. That's all.
