Because there was no need for him to give the media another stick to beat him and us with. His reply IMHO should have been 'Brad was excellent!' STOP If he needed to say something some a bland reply like - we will see. That's all.

Isn't that what he said?

I have no idea. Can you find the exact quotes please

I cant either now lol
I believe he said something along the lines of, Brad is no.1 and Hugo will have to prove himself or fight for his place or whatever. My take is AVB may be spot on but dont give the fecking press anything. They are leaches, they then go to the Deschamps and ask what your reaction to Lloris not being No1.................the rest is history.

HR was very good at this! Opening his mouth and saying nothing.

Sorry Kendall, but I'm completely confused by this. How or why are Spurs and AVB a joke for this? Indeed, a joke for what???

Maybe I've missed something, but as far as I know the ONLY story that has come out about Lloris was Deschamps shooting his mouth off in a clearly biased way with his own France agenda.

At the end of the day Lloris spent practically the whole of deadline day at holly House before signing. To me that indicates fairly lengthy negotiations, of which none of us were privvy to. But no matter what faults Levy or AVB have, I would seriously fucking doubt they would have guaranteed him to be a nailed on starter in every match. And if indeed they did, the I seriously doubt that AVB would have walked out in front of the cameras a day later saying that Brad is our number 1. Sorry, but Lloris knows exactly what he has signed up for here.

Monty, M8...NO!
That is so <DUMB> I almost did the deed :)

Come on....

AVB said exactly the right thing in my mind. Brad needs reassurance that he at least has a fighting chance and public backing is very good for this, plus it keeps the local media here off our back, as Brad is an EPL legend in his own right. If it isn't stated there will be a witch hunt against Lloris and AVB over Brad's relegation from the first team without a "supposed" chance.

Lloris also needs to be aware that he has competition. Yes, he will know that he signed up to be Nr 1, but hey look, Brad is still here and playing well, so there is no harm in saying again publicly that he needs to be on his toes.

Anything else and Lloris waltzes in and Brad or anyone else will be demoralised.

If you keep that out of the media, then they will make up their own BS.

So what if Deschamps gets his knickers in a twist over it, he did say he would wait and see as to what actually transpires.

The public game is fecking damned if you do and damned if you don't, but AVB has to play it and he doesn't have the luxury of being a proven winner like Mourinho or Ferguson, so he can't yet tell them to go do one.

Time....
