I think you all lack patience, it's only been 2 years we've been looking for a CB. 6/7 years minimum is what I'd expect to identify one worth buying in world football.

So you think it would take 6-7 years to identify better centre backs than Dier and Sanchez?

I wonder if we could have got him for less at the start of the window and if his price has gone up now they’ve sold Diaby. I really wouldn’t be surprised if we had just payed up at the beginning of the window we could have got him for a little less. Fact is they certainly don’t need to sell and they certainly don’t seem like they want to sell.
That's an interesting hypothesis but with Tah's release clause, and a German Journo saying they didn't want to sell Tapsoba at the at the start of the summer, I have my doubts.

Not sure if this is new or not. Can't find a recent version on Fabs page.

I get the feeling that Levy has an old fashioned tendency to not want to pay high fees for defenders. We've seen other clubs spend big on that position and be massively improved. Pool overpaid for VVD but they wouldn't have achieved what they did without him. It's such an important position in modern football. Hopefully Ange can win him over on this one. We've made some good signings but I really think success this season depends on our recruitment at the back. If we don't have pace at the back the system won't work.

Hopefully its just a case of getting Sanchez wages off the books and then Levy will green light a CB or two.

I don't trust a single letter from an aggregator

Nothing like buying a cb or two to encourage the likes of Sanchez, dier, etc to move on.

tell them they are not getting registered and to find a new club.

man’s more portentous accept lower fees to move them on.

we have to start shifting all these excess players that are not good enough.

It sounds like Dier's staying but hopefully that's as backup and by January he'll realise he doesn't have the attributes to play such a high line and decide to go. I'm sure Sanchez will go. Can't blame him for being apprehensive about going to Russia. I agree though, get one in now. We have the cash.

I don't see us getting him cheap or getting any help, especially how we behaved when we purchased Son from them.

We only get Tapsoba if we overpay.

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

Yeah I agree. VDV is more likely on this basis. Tosin even more likely as Fulham have just signed a defender and he seems to be out of favour there. Have my doubts about whether Tosin is the required quality though.

If they want something that's not ridiculous like 50m just pay up in a couple of instalments and be done with it. We can negotiate more for the next CB target when our defence is no longer Championship standard.

Seriously, if Taps and VDV are 'too expensive' what are we left with? The only other CB we're strongly linked with is Tosin. This might be an occasion where 'overpaying' (in Levy's opinion) is the only option.

Guaranteed we drag it on long enough we lose him and end up with another filler. If he’s your top target and you can afford it just pay the fucking money.
Sick and tired of this constant nickel and dime cheap ass bullshit

So we adapt to a data-driven approach to lessen chances of signing ill-suited players, our scouts and data analysts identify him as a Premium choice and Levy still baulks at the fee
