Given it a dislike for the arrogance of the title. Give your opinion, disagree with everyone, say we are all talking rubbish but don't set yourself up as some genius amongst morans

I'm guessing that was intentional :D

Anyway, I agree. An incredibly arrogant title, followed up by disappointing observations.

Yes. I'm bored. This entertainment has become unsatisfactory, and opera makes me wince.

Are you the controversial Boris, the wierd Boris, the reasonable Boris or the nice Boris? I cant keep up with the Boris'es on here - they are all so...different

Fair way to put it but we shouldn't have started those games in that way to begin with. After WH, Hull x2 and games prior to those why his he still yet to learn that starting that slow is causing us problems?
Starting slowly didn't cause us a problem at Everton; we were playing five-a-sides in their box in the first half.

What's causing us a problem is, in short, playing one inverted winger and one non-winger in our wide positions. It means that we have no threat down either flank, and the centre is too congested for any decent off-the-ball movement and incisive passing. So Soldado is completely starved of the kind of service that he thrives on and there is no room for a midfield player (probably Paulinho) to run beyond the striker.

If we played Townsend left and Lamela or Lennon right it would stretch the opposition defence and give us the option of either going wide or attacking through the middle. One inverted winger with one 'conventional' could work. The way we are playing the system now will not.

But you have been educated by this shiny beacon of luminosity... you're not educated... you don't feel educated?

Oh dear, now I don't know who I am. I don't think I'm weird but have probably been by turns controversial, reasonable and nice. Hard to say though because I often post when drunk, but hey, who doesn't.

Will the other Borises please step forward so we can sort this out for Flashspur and ourselves?

the funny thing is...we DIDNT start slow today...and conceded in the first 15 minutes...it was only after the goal play slowed down...to ensure that we didnt concede again

See I don't get this Chris. When we play the same way in both halves against Hull/West Ham or whoever it's AVB's fault. When we play much better or do improve, it's glossed over as desperation/had no choice or somesuch.

Would it really hurt to give a little credit? We were much improved in the second half and if AVB must carry the can for the negatives, then he should certainly be given some credit for our improved second half performance.

Onions.

I agree with this. The second half yesterday was not dross at all. The first half before their goal and the couple of mins leading up to it, was not dross either.

We actually played some of our best football at home this season in the second half yesterday. Players looked like they wer given a bit more of a chance to express themselves - they weren't even very good at containing us and this is a game that for once this season we were unlucky not to win in the end.

I in no way think we looked like a title challenging team but unless you get an early goal nowadays against anyone who wants to park the proverbial bus you are going to struggle to break teams down and create chances.

Last week that was people main moan. Not enough through balls, key passes, shots in the area, not enough chances. We had those yesterday (albeit not many through balls again), but our defensive unit has an awful 5-10 mins and suddenly we are a shambles, clueless, dross, awful, listing new managers we would want etc.

I have been an observer of this site for a little while but am mainly on twitter talking and reading Spurs.

Just going to give my thoughts on the current situation & fans views I frequently see & am baffled about.

1) When every team is announced I see, look at our bench, we must have the best bench/squad in the league etc etc. Today Sandro didn't start presumably due to not being 100% fit after asking to come off in our last league game. Instead we have Dembele & Paulinho. At HT I see people slating the fact that Sandro didn't start & that he should always start. Question. Do we have a great squad/bench or not? Under previous regimes I saw ppl crying that we never had squad depth or never rotated & so ran players into the ground.

2) We don't need to play DMs at home. AVB's selection is too negative. It's generally assumed that Sandro/Capone are our DMs and Paulinho/Dembele are our more attacking minded midfielders. Today we didn't start a noted DM in middle of the park, yet it's greeted with negativity after weeks of ppl saying we need to take the head break off at home.

3) Stop playing inverted wingers it don't work. Play wingers on there natural sides & cross the ball. In the same breath these same people are saying Lamela should be stating. Do they realise he played off the right for Roma? Can you imagine if he started on the left for us & didn't impress the amount AVB'S would be slated.

4) In all my years of watching Spurs, whether it be from open play or set pieces, I can probably count on my hands the amount of goals we've scored from balls crossed into the box. There were plenty of games under Harry where Azza played on the right & Bale on the left & we couldn't break down teams or a keeper had 'one of those days'.

5) Also ppl complain about Towsend shooting as it breaks up a carefully measured build up play. Do you realise if you just whip balls into the box & when it gets headed clear that measured build up has come to nothing. The reason for inverted wingers is to create deliberate opportunities rather than hitting the ball into an area & hoping.

Don't get me wrong. We could/should be playing a lot better & for one reason or another aren't but the amount of contradictory drivel I hear spouted is annoying & hilarious in equal measure. For me we don't have enough ppl running past the ball and looking to break defensive lines. Everyone comes short so as not to takes risk or lose the ball.

I think you need educating yourself my patronising friend. Playing a dedicated "DM" in Sandro allows the other central midfielder freer licence to go forward. It also allows our full backs to bomb on knowing they have cover if we get hit on the break. Yesterday was a prime example as in the second half we looked so much better going forward.

As for Townsend, it's not his shorting it's his decision making on when to shoot and his ability to see a pass. He's shooting when he should be passing and cutting inside when he should be going to the line. He makes it easy for the opposition to defend against us as everything is too narrow.

Not saying out. However if he loses to city and utd the press is going to crucify him.

Yeah, but if we get 4 points we will be real contenders again. Just like man u who are back in the race but level on points with us

What I could not figure out on yesterdays performance was the time selection was against the way we chose to play.

We played 3 creative players behind a forward but yet chose to try and attack down the flanks only.
The amount of times the central midfielders received the ball with their back to goal was astounding and there was very little central movement to receive the ball.
Newcastle saw this and just doubled up on our wingers(?)/wingbacks.

Why buy those players if you want to play like that?

Our high line and the fact that teams set up to sit back denies space and makes for miserable battles of attrition week in week out settled by the odd goal or moments of individual brilliance (which you cannot rely on).

If AVB wants to play this way he should put AT on the left, Lennon on the right, Ade/Defoe and Soldado up front and pack the central midfield with Sandro and Capoue.

Its gonna be a long season...

Yup - the league is a tight tight place right now.

Teams at the middle to lower end of the table are working as hard as the teams at the top. Football is certainly changing and with the current tactical love for playing one up front its actually making it easier for teams to strangle and frustrate oppositions across the board. Man city - who scored 7 against Norwich last week could only manage a handful of on target shots and a couple of through balls against a Sunderland team who have looked there for taking all season.

Chelsea barely managed to break down this Newcastle team in a full 90 mins last week so i imagined it would be hard for us to do so too, but we actually had the most prolific offensive stats that we have had this season so far.

A loss is a loss. I get that. But we have had droves of people on here in recent weeks complaining that they want to see more exciting football, more chances, more shots on goal - The second half yesterday was entertaining. It wasnt always pretty but it was exciting and hugely disappointing at the same time a far cry from the complaints with the 1-0 victories we have had that have caused so many to call for the defensively lackluster olden days.

Yes we were poor and frustrating for 25-30 mins of the first half yesterday but we played well in the second half and for once actually deserved more than we got.
