Christmas Day 1914?I went to a fight once, a game of football broke out
Haven't watched, but I can imagine it's a bit like that Dante twat that lived on my street, who was featured on the BBC doc about English football hooligans last year.... Going round the woods punching and lifting trees!
It's clearly been long planned. Whilst trying to find news on events, I stumbled upon this (admittedly from the Daily Star...) from March 16 stating that Russian's are in 'training camps' for the Euro's. So it's not like this should've been a surprise to the authorities.

In video stills from a hooligan “training camp”, the yobs – some shirtless despite the snow – practise their fighting skills.
The sickening film – titled Russian Ultras – lasts just two minutes but at the end of the violence half a dozen men are left unconscious on the frozen ground.
And the thugs have sent out a chilling warning to British fans ahead of the tournament.
A yob called Yuri – a fan of CSKA Moscow – claimed most hooligans are neo-Nazis with military and law enforcement backgrounds.
He said: “We are hard men, many from the army and police. Not soft English men in their Lacoste clothes and girls’ shoes.
“We fight in the woods and train and fight at matches.
“England fans will have no chance. Russia is number one.”
Everyone hates the Russians out in thai boxing camps. Think they fucking own the place.
He's a cage fighter. Hence the training in the woods.
He is now, but when the first show was recorded he wasn't. He was going up there to take out his frustrations that he was banned from being at Spurs games and the fights.
I'll expand on that, I thought the ITV coverage was annoyingly unpatriotic on Saturday night, the snide questions they asked the players after the match, the willingness to believe anything bad about the English fans abroad, it was almost as if Murdoch had a share in ITV and the coverage was as biased and slanted as it could possibly be in order to disenchant the English with the idea of remaining in Europe. Here's a theory cos I know you all like ridiculous conspiracies.
The Russian thugs are trained fighters on a mission from Putin to destabilise the Remain campaign. They see Brexit as a key stepping stone to the break up of a united Europe opening up the eastern states to Russian influence.
Hmmm?
They were indeed snide and he repeated the question 3 or 4 times baiting players.I'll expand on that, I thought the ITV coverage was annoyingly unpatriotic on Saturday night, the snide questions they asked the players after the match, the willingness to believe anything bad about the English fans abroad, it was almost as if Murdoch had a share in ITV and the coverage was as biased and slanted as it could possibly be in order to disenchant the English with the idea of remaining in Europe.
Glad you got back safely though Matty. Can't have been a nice experienceJus got back from Marseille.
Got there on Friday, watched the opening game at the fan park and the atmosphere was very cordial.
Saturday headed to the old port, all very good natured to begin with. Plenty of chanting, lots of beer being consumed, everyone enjoying themselves. Then people started running, didn't see what started it and next thing I knew the French riot police were there. I've been led to believe that the Russians were on their way, but cant vouch for that. A few locals were around and covered their faces, threw a few bottles but the atmosphere definitely changed.
A few bottles were thrown, but nothing compared to what the Germans did to us in Frankfurt at WC2016. Then the tear gas came out, lost my mate as I moved away and headed for shelter inside a bar with a few others. Once I thought it was clear found my mate. A couple of people were throwing bottles again, I stopped a local from lobbing one by holding his arm and asking him how he thought that would help the situation. Then another round of tear gas, this one really got us good. That stuff is fucking lethal.
Also had a tear gas grenade miss us by about five metres, flying through the air, making the kind of nouse when it landed that you'd expect in a war film.
Spent the next hour going down loads of alleys, avoiding the locals who were trying to get involved, speaking to people as to where not to go. Spoke to a former marine who said the Russians had been in boot camps to prepare for this.
Decided to walk to the stadium, had some pictures taken with some Russian fans and some old bill in full Robocop gear.
Near the stadium had a few more beers, everyone was again in full enjoyment mode, really good crack. Then started to make our way to the stadium and, as Vardy's missus correctly said basically got tear gassed by the French police again and trapped in this tiny route to the stadium as they'd decided to shut the gates. People jumping over fences reminiscent of Hillsborough.
Didn't see the trouble at the game.
Walked back to the old port after the game, as that's where our hotel was, but was blocked off by the French police, so headed down another alleyway.
More tear gas and some locals running with bottles, before we persuaded a restaurant to let us in. Had a great couple of hours in there with the staff, they even told us to smoke inside as it was safer.
From my experience, purely from what I saw, yes a few England fans threw some bottles. Quite why the supermarkets couldn't sell beer out of plastic bottles I dont know. The locals were out for trouble. The police were indiscriminate in their use of tear gas, we got gassed six times. I didn't see any Russians kicking off but I think that's more down to luck, speaking to people and keeping our eyes open.
Glad you got back safely though Matty. Can't have been a nice experience
I knew the real ringleader would turn up eventually.
Glad you're okay though Matty. You must be part man part tear gas by the sounds if it.
Yeah there is an element within the English supporters who are total morons, but it's no different when they are here in England. It's just here the police know how to diffuse it and that's by keeping them in one area and letting them be louts. They move on.
What we have here is organised groups of ultras targeting the English because they know they could be up for trouble. I'm not excusing the English, but the viciousness of these organised groups is scary.
We're talking paramilitary types here from Russia or France who are there purely for violence and nothing else. The English, whilst loud and moronic are generally there for the football. Yes, they act brash and appear to be a school yard bully, but that's all it is, stupid bravado that has suddenly met organised gangs of thugs.
Should be noted that English fans helped clean up Marseille port, whereas Russians were busy showing off their bloodstained trophies (English flags) on the Internet.
I cannot stand the give it large boozed up attitude of a lot of English "fans", but in terms of violence at the tournament, France and Russia already have much to answer for.
I totally agree with you and think you`re right. Stupid of me to claim that "english morons are most morons". I just felt upset by watching some clips yesterday. There were 70 000 english there. "Only" 20 000 russians. English morons will probably dominate in the picture then.
Most of the english down there are probably fine, but the way many of them try to provoce is absolutely stupid. I think it`s a good point that many don`t understand ironic english and that humour. But, people can`t just sing and chant whatever vulgar and offensive words they`d like and still expect the locals, the police and other nations supporters letting them be louts. Especially not when there are thousands of them.
Especially if they normally are not football hooligans, and even if they`re "young and dumb", they must realize that by acting like that they put themselves in the direct shotline. They make themselves the "perfect target"
Yes, russian hooligans are viciuous. They are scumbags. It`s also reported that those russian hooligans in Marseille are trained for fighting. The vice-president in the russian parlament is supporting and defending these thugs on twitter (he`s also a member of the board of the russian football association...)
Terrible!
the trouble is that the manner in which the English enjoy themselves is very distasteful & offensive to many Europeans. It plays on your British high street but it doesn't on your European sidewalkthe English in general) are friendly people who respect other cultures and just want to enjoy themselves without causing any trouble.

Most people, even on this site, appear to have no idea quite how offensive continental Europeans find what we'd consider 'normal behavior' ... & then become nonplused & taken aback at the response earned
