England player to become first openly gay footballer

The government currently estimates 5-7% of the population is lesbian, gay or bisexual. So there's roughly between 1,179 and 1,650 lesbian, gay or bisexual SC members.

So just over 1 in 20, which means there's approx 1.5 gay players in Roy's preliminary squad of 30.

I wonder why any player would choose to out themselves in the Sun. I'm sure they'll get paid well for the story but ffs it's the biggest bigot out of the rags. Not so long ago they'd print a story like this and suggest the player would be actively preying on his team mates like a frenzied horny anus hunter hell bent on buggering everything in sight.

Would much prefer it if a player went through a more respectable paper, or even a LGBT specific magazine.

I had asked the question not so SC members would out each other (looking at you, @OmarsComing ), but as an experiment to see whether anyone would be comfortable coming out to their SC peers just as we expect / celebrate / deride / trivialise / are indifferent to footy players coming out to their peers. (As you did; kudos to you; unless you just said that for no reason).

I suspect SC could involve more unpleasant feedback than you'd get at a professional football club, although less than you'd get from opposition fans; possibly also less than you'd get from opposition players and home fans (imagine if Jenas came out when with Spurs - what sort of abuse would he endure from the terraces?)

We're all anonymous here though. Nothing to lose.
