Not sure if it was raised last night but how come Sterling came on ahead of Rashford?

Doesn’t sound like he had ideal preparations and considering Rashford’s performances vs Wales - a bit confusing looking back.

I think Southgate has his favorites.

Overlooking Rashford was weird.

Gutted for Harry. He was a slightly different contact away from being lauded one of our greatest ever players, instead he is seen as a failure. Ironic on the night he equals Rooney's record and goes clear for England tournament goals.
Really demonstrates the duality of football. Score that pen and England go on to win and the papers would be full of calls for him to be knighted!

Yep, another team I support go out, despite being the better team on the day. Seen it happen too many times ?

I swear we lose so many games against top sides and come away thinking “they were there for the taking”. It is like watching Spurs. The almosts and nearlys. Sickening.
England don’t tend to beat teams of higher ranking than them. I heard this morning, England have lost their last 12 games they have gone behind. France have won last 12 when going ahead. France have won their last 5 (now 6) quarter finals. England once going behind, did not have the form to suggest they were going to win this match. England were at their best and it wasn’t good enough to beat France. England made France look average but that took too much defensive play and that neglected the offensive play.

Sterling just annoyed the fuck out of me when he came on, just went backwards and sideways and when he had a bit of space ahead of him he took an age to do anything (which is not great when you are chasing the game)

Would've definitely bought Rashford on, and much earlier.
Should have been Rashford, Grealish or Maddison.

At that point in the game and with the scenario faced, you have to get players on who can either be a goal threat or increase the goal threat chances.

Mount presses well but that's about it, Sterling isn't a game changer because more often than not he typically wastes good attacking opportunities by running into blind alleys or just being wasteful with the ball. Sterling was also never going to unsettle France's now compact defence.

Also Grealish and Maddison give you more ball control in the final third and would have been looking for Kane or the goal at every opportunity, which would have allowed England to build pressure.

Brutal but true I guess. A good performance from us doesn’t beat a mediocre France. Puts things into perspective really.

Whilst many will point to the obvious ones to fear in the ranks of the opposition, when it comes to French players who have played against England or Spurs it's not Mbappe and Henry who have worried me the most, it's always been Robert Pires and Oliver Giroud, whenever their names have been confirmed on the teamsheets they've usually sent a shiver down my spine and heightened my sense of anxiety and danger in these games and not in a good way.....

There's just something about their play that always gives or gave me that feeling of inevitable dread that in Arsensal, Chelsea, or French shirts they are going be either directly involved in punishing our defensive lapses and striking killer blows or being indirectly involved with an assist.

I said on a previous post he shortened his run up by 3/4 yds, any other keeper and he doesn’t do that

I'm not sure it's because I've lloris. I just think it was such a pressure pen regardless he just forgot his routine

Yes it’s a weird argument to suggest that a team would try to convince their regular penalty taker not to take one at a crucial moment.
It’s not a weird argument, it is a totally nonsense argument. No team in world football would do it.
If someone else had taken it & missed, three people would’ve quite rightly got pelters - Southgate, Kane & the kicker.
Anyone suggesting it was a good idea is 100% being captain hindsight. And Eni Aluko embarrassed herself in front of millions for doing so.

I'm just sad about the outcome, completely deflated, why did it have to be like this...

I think a lot of people thought it would be very difficult for him to score two penalties against his club mate in such a high pressure game. The law of averages would suggest there's a chance of missing one of them. For all that there's no way he's not stepping up to take it and there's no one else I'd rather see take it.

I think a lot of fans of teams who go out think the same thing. It's not just an England or Tottenham thing.

Luckily i wasnt watching ITV broadcast but Nice to see Sam Matterface getting called out on his ridiculously shitty commentary and the line he used when Kane missed.

What ITV were thinking promoting this bellend to top commentator spot is beyond me?!
What did he say? I couldn’t hear where I was.

Something along the lines of "they were hoping for Lineker, and they got Waddle" when Kane missed the pen.

Terrible commentator who spends 89 minutes per game looking for his Holywood line.

French showed their experience last night, they were on the line with their physicality and tackling and the ref was caught in the headlights with Saka being fouled so much.

It was a 50/50 game and the future looks bright for England.

Especially at international level now, the only team I look at who have really shown any consistency in recent years is Croatia.
Spain, Holland and Germany have done bugger all for years, the French blow hot and cold.
Portugal, who I thought looked decent prior to Morocco completely let themselves down, likewise for all the fanfare Brazil.
It’s made a really nice change seeing some of the big boys get schooled as opposed to watching the PL.

Of which has probably written about 10 shit or irrelevant ones down.

He needs to go and listen to Barry Davies and realise the art is to let the game do the talking and think off the cuff

Those saying - Kane shouldnt have taken the second, would you have let him take one in a penalty shoot out?

This is all very hypothetical as we are out so ifs and buts dont work with me but if we are saying the second proved a huge risk, then the shoot out would have been a second go... and if he scored the second during the game, would you have let him take the shoot out one?

I don't think Eni Aluko posts on here ?

If we'd managed to equalise and it went to extra time then penalties I'd still want him to take one.
