Wasn't Nike selling Umbro in the fall? Did that ever happen?

Edit: Iconix was who they were selling to.

Nike's treatment of Umbro is one of many reasons why I hate that company. They purchased Umbro solely to strip it of its most lucrative assets (mainly the shirt contracts with Man City & England), which will likely lead to a number of people losing their jobs as the biggest clubs Umbro have been left with are Nottm Forest, Blackburn and Huddersfield.

As for that possible kit, it's horrible. When Adidas did the white & gold for Real Madrid back in 2011 it worked as it was fairly unique at the time and because they've won multiple Spanish and European titles. On the average England fan it's going to look chavvy, like how the blue & gold shirt does on Chelsea fans. If Nike so badly want gold on an England kit why not put it on an all red one? That way, with the Three Lions crest, it will look like it was inspired by the Royal Arms of England rather than copying a design that Adidas considers so outdated it's using it for teams like Swansea.

England have a new kit every other international break or it certainly seems that way, i don't own an England shirt but i'd be pissed off if i bought one it and it was replaced after three or four months, worse still for parents.

England bring out a new kit once every 2 years.

They didnt get City back until after Nike had them.

There was a big song and dance made about the 2010 red shirt, i think they used it twice. Matters not a shit to me as i don't buy them.

Nike represent everything that is wrong with football.
They aren't even traditionally a football kit or equipment maker

Same with under armour and pony, I was disgusted at spurs shirts being made by these Johnny come lately's

Adidas did the same when they bought Reebok, big companies do it all the time.

Umbro are still a popular brand worldwide but its the choice of the new owners to get out of the football market completely. Some of the teams that Nike will now supply had expiry contracts (Man City included), there's nothing sinister about it. Other Umbro teams have chosen different brands now that their supplier are leaving the market (Sevilla > Warrior) etc.

Blackburn will be a Nike team from next season.

The gold kit that was leaked is a one off for the 150 year anniversary.

There is a subtle difference between the Nike and Adidas examples. Yes, both wanted to consolidate Umbro and Reebok respectively under their umbrellas, as they didn't want overlap and competition in the same space from within. But Nike stripped Umbro of its value without any plan for its future. They were willing to just write down the acquisition and dump it. Adidas on the other hand had a plan for Reebok, which was to turn it into a fitness brand. Which they are doing with some success, especially with the Crossfit phenomenon.

Nike may have very well purchased Umbro just for the sake of opening more doors into the football world. However, Nike couldn't have stripped Umbro of its value without the likes of the FA, Manchester City and other clients being willing to switch from Umbro to Nike. If you have a traditional English/Manchester company, wouldn't it have made sense to force Nike to keep the Umbro brand on the kit if Nike wanted to keep the business?

I think Arsenal were the first English shirt team to have Nike.

I absolutely abhor Nike, detest, revile, LOATHE them!
No Nike allowed in my house.
