He's the quickest in that he's clocked the top speed in a game so far. But in actual game play acceleration over the first 10-20 metres is far more important.

Still surprising though. I thought he looked a lil sluggish personally

Didn't Pleaty say just the other night that Townsend was the second fastest player at the club only to Walker?

Guess it's all in the measurements...

This. Kaboul also features good top speed, but it doesn't matter much since his acceleration and agility is pretty poor. Would be very surprised if Dier stayed with Walker or Townsend far at all in a beep test.

I heard Kaboul was the fastest player at the club a few years ago when Bale was still here! But over a certain distance, Lennon was the fastest in the first ten metres.

Dier has got some great attributes, he's gonna be one hell of a player in a few seasons I think. Hope he gets some game time at centre half this year.

These same mechanisms suggest Arjen Robben is faster than Bale. Robben is pretty fast, and I'll certainly concede bias, but there's no goddamn way he's faster than Gareth Bale.

Just...

Right, definitely remember that article. I think the specific numbers were that Kaboul would win on the full field, but Walker took it in the 40 (quoted by Lennon).

I agree on Dier. He has massively impressed me with his maturity and solidity for his age. Think it's a shame he's seen so little time of late, and am really hoping we see Kaboul moved on to clear the way for him at CB. Hoping we may see him next week in the Burnley replay, as Fats & Verts very much need a break.

Love that goal.

What separates Bale from the rest is the ability to accelerate at what looks like everyone else's top speed. To try be clearer bales top end acceleration is unparalleled, I've never seen anything like it. The goal against barca or maicon's rape illustrate this perfectly

Completely agreed. This goal in particular is a perfect example of that.

The reason that he's such an expensive piece of athletic property is that he provides an Olympic sprinter's acceleration with unusual agility for his size and height. He did blossom late, but my god when he did, he did. We were graced with an unparalleled athlete at Tottenham Hotspur, and he wasn't too shoddy at football either.

Taken from 'The LAD Bible' on Facebook - Gareth Bale was clocked running at 26.8mph on Wednesday Night. That is 0.3mph quicker than Usain Bolt in his world record 100m sprint...

And a few other news outlets reported similar things too http://hereisthecity.com/en-gb/2014/04/19/usain-bolt-claims-real-madrid-man-is-fastest-in-the-world/ and http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...sprinting-close-Usain-Bolts-world-record.html

Walker is surely faster, he probably hasnt been clocked yet, or hasnt really stretched his legs.

Never imagined Dier would be up there though

all depends on the distance the speed/time is captured,.... as a rule of thumb, the smaller players are quicker for the short distance 30-50 metres, but the longer stride is a big advantage over 50-100+ metres....

just generally speaking, I never would have guessed Dier would be way up there, but I would have picked him as fastest Spurs CB without question though (y)

Well he did have a stint at Everton, so he's more than used to knowing you need to sprint through Liverpool for safety. :ROFLMAO:
I had no idea he was at Everton. I'd never heard of a player with a youth career loan. Quite rare I would think.

Yeah. bit strange. Still apparently deserved to be negged for it, though!
