Why would we sell a CB for £25M when (a) it would cost much more to replace him with the same quality and (b) we have a lack of decent CBs? I know we only spent £11M on him, but we got an amazing deal due to Swansea being in financial difficulties.
I guess the question is how good is he? We certainly haven't seen enough of him to know how he'll cope at PL level. The other issue is if we have to move players on to bring players in and others aren't movable we might have to sell fringe players we'd rather keep to do so.

For the record I don't want to sell him but he's not a must keep at this stage either.

Oh and the brighton interest is real, although I don't think it's been anything other than an enquiry at this stage.

I guess it would be dependent on the opinions of those inside the club who watch him training every day. If they think he's got the potential to really push on and become a regular starter then we should definitely keep him, but if they feel he's just going to struggle to get into the first team and be another Foyth, then why not cash in now and put the money towards someone who could really push for a first team place? Sometimes we hang onto these players for too long in the blind hope that they will suddenly improve and then they lose all their value and leave for next to nothing.

Personally I think he's clearly has got potential and I'd prefer him as 2nd/3rd choice over Dier, but the jury is definitely still out and I'm still undecided on just how good he can be.

If hypothetically selling Rodon for 25 gives you the money to do the Kounde deal thats a no brainer.

Have to agree. I don't think he's good enough but if he stays I'm not going to be upset about it. Definitely others I want out more.
I just don't see any real reason to hate the guy. I mean if anything he should hate us fans after what happened with his brother truth be told.

I think is performances for Wales - which have been really good - show he is ready and capable. I appreciate we need to see him in a run of PL games. I do have concerns over his ability on the ball (his passing seems a little slow / unsure) and his concentration levels (after his mistake at home to Liverpool, but would prefer we started him over any of our other current CBs who U have seen more than enough of to know they have serious inadequacies and are not good enough!

I think if we got a decent bid for Rodon and it allowed us to do a deal for a better player, we should take it.

That isn't a slight on Rodon, but how high is his ceiling really? It's difficult to tell. We haven't seen enough to suggest he will be close to world class or an elite CB. He will probably end up a decent one and that's about it.

I think rodon is our best defender personally and think him and tanganga are a great young pairing.

Both need to learn their trade and hopefully getting the likes of Romero will help keep people on their toes and develop.

If Sanchez, Toby and dier left I’d be pleased as it gives them more chances.

I think it's not so much hate as much as frustration.

At any football club the fans always have scapegoats and they're invariably the weak links in the side. Dier, along with Winks and Sissoko, are clearly the weak links at the moment, hence they're subject to jokes and negative comments.

I doubt most of the fans who say negative stuff about those players on here genuinely hate them or wish them ill will. They just want to club to improve and are frustrated by the poor performances of those players dragging it down

Obviously you get the odd knobhead who literally boos the players and shouts at them on matchdays, but deep down I suspect most of us actually like Dier, even if we slag him off on SC. I made a joke about him in the ITK thread the other day and got a couple of negative ratings which I fully accept, but it was only a joke. I've actually got a huge amount of respect for him as a person and he's had some great moments in a Spurs shirt - I just think that, sadly, he's not good enough for us anymore beyond a rotation/backup squad player and we'd be wise to sell if we got a decent offer.

Dier had my support until the beginning of last season, but he seems to be getting worse and worse, and when he blamed Tanganga for that goal which was clearly his own fault (I can't remember who it was against), it was the final nail in the coffin.

Apologies, that's what I was angling at. Some weird thing about the Welsh FA not counting, even though Swansea are in the English league.
Yeah, besides I'm not too fussed with HG at this point. Most of the players we're looking to offload are non-hg players so it should be an issue. Especially with Sess & Skipp back.

I think we have 4/5 foreign player spaces available in the PL squad now and it’s not going to be an issue in Europe where hopefully in the group stages we will be playing the younger players.

Not a disaster if we dont sell Dier. Think he can be a versatile player to have in the squad. (..i know hes been kinda shit for the last couple of seasons but maybe he will come good again)

Really don’t mind keeping Dier but not as a starter, he should be a back/up and squad player.

He’s not consistent enough but he’s had a few top top games at CB for example the carabao cup final he was phenomenal, would’ve been 4/5-0 if not for him.

He’s also had injuries and illnesses and has moved around position.

Id like to hope Nuno could turn him into his Coady, he’s got a top attitude and some good attributes but don’t think he is or will ever be the required level we need for a starting CB week in week out, however I’d rather keep him than Sanchez who I think just needs a fresh start bless him.

I really have no personal problem with Dier. If we're being truly honest and a credible report linked us with a move for this current version of Eric Dier, even us a back-up option, none of us would be looking forward to it. He's not particularly quick or mobile, he makes rash challenges, he has very questionable positioning and the extent of his leadership qualities nowadays, involves wildly gesticulating and pointing at shadows after we concede a goal.

I hear he's a very lovely guy outside of football though. Strongly devoted to family, very well read, enjoys traveling and learning about different cultures. Those qualities, as endearing as they are, don't translate into a Top 4 quality CB. This could all be conjecture but if we get Romero, Tomiyasu and Kounde ( or another CB ), do we honestly see a place for Dier? He's not HG, he's pretty maxed out on his CB potential and he would be standing in the way of Tanganga, Rodon and the other academy CB's with higher ceilings. If sentimentality is the driving factor, then fine, he should stay. But if we're trying to see this painful rebuild all the way through, his exit should be a condition of that.

We should be careful what we wish for. Trippier had a bad run of form and he was hounded by fans. Doesn’t look too shabby now, and he‘s twice the player that Aurier is.

So u honestly think Tottenham Hotspur in the year 2021 while competing in the newly formed ECL should only aim for world class and elite? cuz that’s definitely attainable. lmao
