He's on Soccer AM atm, talking about, amongst other things, Gazza turning up to training with an ostrich and Spurs winning the Champions League.

Comes across very well...

No real point to this thread, especially as the main interview is now finished (although he'll be on the sofa for the rest of the show)... just showing a bit of love!

Yep saw that. West Ham fans laughing when he was asked about our chances of winning the League or CL, and he turned to them and went "We're not actually talkin about the ChampionSHIP we're talking about the Champions League" Said like a true yiddo!

He really loves Spurs, and giving Sedgley stick !

I didn't see many games with Thorsvedt in goal. I'veonly really seen him in action on those season review video things.

From what I gather though, he was a bit tasty in goal, yes?

Not sure if tasty is the right expression.....he was quite unpredictable! He also had the worst kick of any pro footballer I've ever seen!

But he was a legend, he also presented me with a 'Managers Player of the Year' trophy when he came to our awards night. I was wearing that horrendous yellow and orange / other weird colours with the Holsten sponsor GK shirt, the same one that he wore for matches. He said 'like your shirt' as he handed me the trophy.

Nearly shit myself.

Awesome!

So answer me this, if you would: again, having only watched highlights and season reviews from that time, I get the impression that Bobby Mimms was OK, not the greatest goalie, and Thorsvedt was an upgrade on him.

Erik said himself in the interview (while talking about Gomes) that he was pretty unpredictable!

Pretty much spot on.

Not sure about being spot on myself.... Erik, in my opinion, was one of our top 3 goalies since Clemence, Mimms was possibly the worst.

He made a humongous error on his debut against Forest live on tele but he recovered and went on to be a very good goalie for us. I'd say Gomes last season and Robbo in his early years at Spurs are the only 2 that have been better for us since Clemence.

I think Erik was more of a legend with the crowd though rather than his ability, he was one of those players like Pav who could put the ball into row z from 3 yards out, turn round and stick his finger up to the crowd and still hear "SOOOOOOooooopppppaaaaaaaaa, Soooooopppaaa Pav"

Erik was good for a couple of seasons but then lost his place to Walker, and from what I remember got it back when Walker had to go off injured at Wimbledon.

In more recent years, Sullivan, Keller, etc etc, Thorstvedt, Walker, all much of a muchness.

Robbo was a massive step up at first, then lost the plot and now we have Gomes, who is the best by far out of the bunch.

Re: Bobby Mimms, I have a very vague recollection of a man u song released in about 1988 with a line referring to him - something like 'better than bobby robson, better than mclair, better than bobby mimms, not in this life dear'. Did I imagine this? Something about the best song you'll ever hear. This was soon after that forest howler...

Sullivan was, or at least peoples memories of him have been distorted. In his first season he was amazing, top class, think he might have won player of the year too. Then he had a decent season after and people wrote him off and now people seem to think he was rubbish.

Thorstvedt was amazing, one of the best Spurs keepers I've seen. He's certainly up there with Gomes and Robbo at their best. I don't remember too many mistakes but then again I only remember my impressions of him rather than the actual things he did.

You don't need to have much of a point to give us an opportunity to praise Erik. Loved the guy. He wasn't the best keeper of all time, but I've always remembered him as mostly reliable. Plus...it was from a period when there weren't many foreign players in a squad, so he had that 'exotic' air to him.

Erik sits in the studio of the PL games beeing sent in Norway and he always speaks like a spurs fan. A big difference this season from the scum fan leading PL sendings on Canal+ who had the football rights for many years.

Erik appears on the talksport breakfast show quite regularly talking to Big Al and I love the way everything he says is 'we' true Spurs fan.
