If we do sign this lad, can anyone offer any help with the correct pronunciation?

I'm reading "Ka-poo-ay" (the last syllable rhyming with "hay", "May" etc) every time I see Capoue written down. Very far off the mark?

You're correct. It's pronounced like this.

Man, if this comes off I just can't get over the fact that we are putting together such a well-rounded squad. If we can add a LB and a CB we honestly have a squad that could compete not just for the title but across any competition we are in. We've got quality all over the place.

Ive seen a few pictures of him wearing the captains armband.
Anyone one know if this is a regular thing or just every now and again?
Just interesting cause we seem to be buying players that have been experience of being captain.

Great bit of business. If we can bring him and fob Hudd and Parker off on a couple of teams with more money than sense, we would make a profit whilst improving the squad quality and saving money on wages

However, I wish we would address the more pressing issues (LB, creativity, specialized CB) within our squad before adding another CM (albeit a very good one). I suppose if he is available for a good price strike while the iron is hot, it's our transfer trademark

Can I get people's views on whether we have specifically stepped up our interest in Capoue over other midfield parker/hudd replacements due to his versatility and ability to play cb in our time of defensive injury crisis?

Or do we think Capoue was always top of our list for Parker/hudd's replacement and it is an extremely happy bit of fortune and coincidence for us that he can also play as a cb when we are in desperate need of some cover there

I think Capoue is maybe a little nod to the direction future windows will take. A long awaited gradual upgrade to our squad players. Also takes into account the real desire by AVB and the other coaches to be able to implement an effective rotation policy going forward. By signing him we'd be able to cover the loss of both Hudd and Parker reasonably well in one player. That he can also pitch in defensively is a major bonus and something a squad player, at the level we've had for a while, has been lacking.

The best part about Capoue, apart from his quality, is his versatility. Capoue doesn't just represent depth at DM, he represents depth as a box-to-box midfielder and as a CB. I'm sure he was viewed as an even better option for us in light of our recent CB injury woes, but I guarantee that due to our interest over the past couple of windows it shows we valued him as a DM as well.

Capoue is a great player that represents a great way to round out our midfield corps while being able to sell off guys like Hudd and Parker. We could essentially offset much, if not all, of his guarantee fee from the sale of Parker/Hudd and save money on wages as well.

I'm sure a CB will be coming in as well.

Playing the second half of the season with a half-fit overplayed Dembele, Hudd and Parker was pretty fatal, IMO.

Thanks for the replies. I agree I think a cb will e coming in too. I was just wondering whether the decision to go ahead with getting capoue was in any way linked to our need for defensive cover for the start of the season.

But as snarf says we seem to have had a long standing interest in him for his midfield qualities so I guess the fact that he is so versatile and can cover cb too is just a bit of good fortune and happy bonus.

Ie. if we hadn't liked him for so long he could have been option D on the list for Parker/hudd replacement but was signed as options A, B and C couldn't cover cb. It's good that it seems this wasnt the case and he was in fact option A anyway for the midfield replacement with the added bonus of being so versatile

I wonder how far this drive for versatility extends. Do you think Levy has asked Capoue if he'd be OK, if required, to man the ticket office for half an hour occasionally?

I hesitate to reply to this, given that it's got nothing to do with Capoue but the one area where we would still seem a bit light, IMO, is keeper.

Brad is great at what he does. But even his most ardent admirers would have to admit that he isn't the ideal keeper for AVB's preferred style of play. I'd feel much more confident if we had a like-for-like back up for Hugo.
but we have super Gomez - or has he been sold?

our start to the season is going to be a mighty mumble jumble of players - it's going to be hard for AVB to introduce so many players slowly as we have an urgent need for them now. It's a shame that some big games come up so quickly. I think we need to keep Parker, Defoe, Ade, Benny until at least the first few games.

We could still setup as follows should we sell Bale (to start):

------------------ Soldado --------------------
Chadli -------- Sigurdsson ------- Lennon
------- Dembele -------- Paulinho -----------
- Rose --- No Idea -- No Idea #2-- Walker

It keeps some established faces in the squad but also brings in some new ones. The more I think about it, the more I'm concerned about CB, though. That shit needs to get squared away and soon.
