I love the insanity of Vermaelen, a player who has effectively retired from the game given how he hasn't played football for at least 13 seasons, gets to shove Vertonghen out to left back after he's just finished the season as part of the PL's best defence :ROFLMAO:

Belgian really isn't a proper country at all. Just a little bit of France and a little bit Holland, created to prevent war breaking out in Europe - and even that it was a failure at. And the lack of passion from their players is evident, especially when contrasted with the Italians.

Just started second half. Still utterly bemused by the ineptitude of Wilmots. You go cm2 against a team you know play 352, with Fellani ad the ACM. You could have a cm3 of naingolan/Witsel/Dembele and have Hazard and debruyne off Origi. And you break up a CB pair that have been playing together all season.

There seems very little tactical methodology to anything Belgium do with or without the ball.

I can't think of an international manager who's wasted so much talent.

Anyone know a Belgian left back? No? That's why Vertonghen is there. Who else do they have? Unless they go with 3 centre halves. With everyone fit Kompany would be in the centre anyway, which moves Vertonghen to the left back role.

The big thing was Fellaini instead of Dembele, who doesn't even get brought on..

Lol how long did he play LB for us though? Almost left because of it as I recall
But after he's just had a season playing at cb, and has been part of the best defence (-Newcastle at least), and his cb partner is Alderweireld who also happens to be Belgian, then job done and you don't have to do any work on your cb's as they know their games inside out..

I'd love to know what the Belgian media make of this.

Jordan Lukaku is a LB. I have no idea how good he is but surely it's beneficial to play a proper CB partnership if you want to do well.

Jan isn't a left back though. Candreava or whatever his name is was killing him down that side. Really, their back 4 should be munier-toby-jan- j. Lukaku. At least those two play full back and you aren't compromising your best central pairing.

In front of that should be nianggolan and Dembélé
With carrasco-de bruyne- hazard as the 3 behind the striker
Finally any one of their strikers could play up top but just for a placeholder we'll go with lukaku

Eg.
Courtois
Munier - toby - jan (c)- j.lukaku
Nianggolan-dembele
Carrasco - de bruyne - hazard
Lukaku

That team has players in position and has an actual structure to it. Plenty of creativity and power too. Finally jan should be captain, not fucking hazard.

Conte wants to bring him to Chelsea. I'd fucking die inside if that happens. World class defender and his home is at Juve.
I can't see him leaving. Would never happen of course, but was imagining him and Alderweireld together at the back during the game. The passing from the back would be insane.
