No moaning from me today but got to say one thing -

Please fuck this competition off Andre IT WILL DAMAGE our chances next season - like this season.

I expect to see it given the respect UEFA afford it.

Okay going with the other cps but this shit - plus I want Saturday games

I think we should play our youth in this next season and they are more than good enough to make it through the group stage, the likes of Townsend, Carroll and etc. are decent players most our U21 youth team is at least championship level if not better

Really? Go and sniff your Mums pants, seriously!

This is a trophy that we have previously won and you want to denigrate that fact by going half arsed?

If it's good enough to Atletico and Athletic Club Bilbao then it is good enough for us

Absolutely agree with this thread, we should use it to help develop our fringe players and youngsters, but AVB simply won't do that after having won it.

Levy is less than likely to give us the squad we need to be challenging for cups, the title and CL and competing in EL, so what happened this year could well happen next.

Be prepared.

If we keep Gareth and we don't make CL next season then he'll be off.

Levy needs to think long and hard about risk/reward.

We need to approach it as a competition that would be great to win, but also importantly as an opportunity to cope with playing a large amount of games in a single season. We'll need to do the same against better competition in the CL, the sooner we get used to it, the better.

Are you saying Gareth Bale bigger than Tottenham Hotspur?

give townsend, carrol, rose( if not in the first team), caulker, adam smith or naughton (if still here),huddlestone etc game time in this competition and leave the first team defence and midfield fresh for a full tilt on the top 4 or 3rd place finish.

Should we have put out a reserve team in the Champions League if we made it? We need to win trophies, it's the point of the entire sport.
Not saying put out the reserves just saying play the highly rated youth and second string like townsend, caulker and etc.

Let's not revert back to H pushing the tea ladies out there on match day but until the KO stages, if we reach them, no need to play full strength sides again. We wouldn't have this season but for the piss-taking injury troubles we suffered in various positions.

With some actual depth in the squad - assuming that is addressed this summer - rotation can be properly implemented. Helps everyone's fitness and form.

Blimey, this subject polarises opinions moreso than Huddlestone.

I still think that this is very do-able whilst maintaining good league form. Just need more depth in the squad and a couple more players of quality. If our transfer dreams come true than I don't see why not. If, come September 1st, we find ourselves without any real strong additions, losing key players and a thin squad then sure, I can understand why we'd be worried about it.

Sorry but I just don't agree with the OP. Everyone has a 'magic' reason why we finished 5th.

It was the Fulham game
No it was Wigan
Fuckoff it was Norwich
It was the Europa
It was this
It was that

BOLLOCKS. BIG FAT HAIRY PURPLE VEINY BOLLOCKS (See what I did there? Taking a leaf out of the Op's book, I used caps as if what i'm saying is fact) ;) If we'd won at Chelsea? If this, if that. That's what football does to you. If Newcastle had scored a goal today, then where would this bullshit argument be?

There is no one single reason. We just have to suck it up and go again next season. Our turn will come. Hopefully while i'm still around to see it :D
