" One of Conte’s fitness coaches, Gian Piero Ventrone, is notorious in Italian football circles and was nicknamed ‘the Marine’ by Juve’s squad, which included Conte, in the ‘90s. Gianluca Vialli once became so enraged with Ventrone, he once locked him in a cupboard and called the police. "

There no cupboards at the Spurs lodge so get to running.

If you 'genuinely' haven't seen a worse footballer play for Spurs than Doherty then you haven't been paying attention. It's always the way though. The current worst is the worst ever, the latest loss is always the worst performance someone has ever seen etc etc

More often than not the 'worst', subjective as it is, just isn't :D

But this thread is the Conte thread so we really don't need this discussion in here. If someone really has the hots for it, start a thread?
This is the worst post I've ever read :cautious:

Have heard this before.

If a top target is unobtainable or too expensive the fair enough. But ITK suggests we didn't buy Traore in the summer because Levy felt we had enough players in this position.

Will believe it when I see it.
I doubt very much that Nuno was given the same assurance though, think he was never seen as long-term and was always hired to use the players he was given by FP rather than build his own squad. Whether it works out the same way once the check has to be signed we’ll have to wait and see…

football.london understands that one key element that has impressed the Spurs players has been Conte's and his staff's communication with them, including explaining fully to every individual why they are or are not in the starting line-up on each occasion and if not what the plans for them are in the future.

FINALLY
I find that article shocking. 2 a days, internationals getting extra training? Thought Nuno was supposed to get us fit? Just how unfit are these players?!? Wild.

I automatícally discount all the enjoying training stuff. Same stuff, different manager. Its a cycle with these players. Enjoy at first when there in. Hate it when they down tools. Just hope Conte & Paratici have the power over them this time around. We can’t afford these players getting another manager sacked.

On this occasion, I'm with Levy. Would you be happy spunking £50mill. On a Moura with muscles, No. Me neither.

It's a tricky one.

Personally I was dead against us signing Traore as I think he's a very one dimensional player and a terrible finisher, but many made the compelling argument that we needed to 'back the manager' or what was the point? I think some fans saying this just wanted a shiny new player and convinced themselves Traore would be a good signing - the general consensus on here was he'd be a bad signing until he became our main transfer target, then suddenly half of SC was convinced he was the missing piece of the puzzle and a great idea. Not signing the player that most previously deemed to be an awful option suddenly became another stick to beat Levy with. But some fans, quite rightly questioned the point of hiring a manager like Nuno if we weren't even going to back him in the market on his personal number one choice.

While Traore was probably an overpriced disaster of a move, what if Conte decides he wants, say, Vlahovic even though we already have Kane? He feels we need another a more mobile, physical no.9 in order to get the best out of his system, and he pinpoints Vlahovic as the key player to push us on. What if Levy then decides this isn't viable because we still have Kane? Vlahovic is too expensive when we still have a world class number 9 and he vetos a 60 million pound bid for the player Conte has earmarked.

This is my fear. I think Levy got it right last time, doubly so as Nuno barely lasted 3 months, but he needs to have a different approach to transfers with Conte. If Conte wants a player Levy doesn't personally approve of, he has to be willing to trust him in a way that he evidently didn't trust Nuno.

If Levy doesn't back him on a couple of these big moves, Conte won't shrug his shoulders like Nuno - he'll hand in his P45 and give him the finger.

For me I'm not overly concerned with what the players think too much. Personally I think they're a lot better than they've been showing and I do attribute a large part of that down to management and you only have to look at how Jose is speaking at Roma to see he was right when he said same coach, different players as he's running into same issues at Roma. I think the confidence of a lot of our players has been shattered in the last 2 years and I expect to see an uptick across the board but hey if If I'm wrong then this is a manager too far for these players to have any power. Anybody not coming correct on the training ground will have nowhere to hide with Conte and I expect they'll be shipped out sharpish. That's why I'm not too fussed about what the players say because either way I think on that front it will be fine.

What I did take from the article however was just that the coaching staff was communicating properly with the players. It sounds so simple and yet we've been devoid of it since the start of last season.

The point is that it is not Levy’s job to judge the player. If the DOF wants him and he is within budget then the chairman should buy him.
If my memory serves me correctly. Levy, as well as saying we had sufficient players in the same area. He also said he was too expensive at the time, and would look again in the New Year.

In hindsight I'm guessing that Levy didn't want to put such an outlay on a player for a manager he clearly didn't want to back nor anticipate being here for very long. It's worked out this time but it won't with Conte.

This article also by sky sports is a good accompaniment to that video.

Against Everton we ran 10kms more as a team than against Man Utd the previous game. With the second highest amount of sprints over the weekend after Leeds out of all the teams. We’ll definitely like to see our players putting the yards in.
Imagine if Conte had been given a whole preseason

My post was about the ITK. I am almost certain the ITK from Trix has said nothing of the sort.

The players are fit they just aren't fit enough to be as intensive as Conte wants.

Mourinho essentially left the fitness up to the players (Kane said so in the Neville interview). Jose shouting press to the players in the Amazon doc was for show because he and his staff clearly didn't focus enough on it.

Nuno doesn't play intensive football, its not surprising that the squad hasn't had proper fitness conditioning since the peak Poch years.

I think this was the perfect time for Conte to arrive.

We have been so fucking shit last two years, that even with conte and a full pre-season, I don’t think the results would have come so easy anyway.

now, he suddenly have a «free-pass» for not getting in the top 4 and have more time with both fans and players.

next year, I’m 100 % sure we’ll be up there challenging for the title?

Nuno was never going to be backed - he was a caretaker.

I believe that Paratici was going for players who perhaps someone like a Conte would want. I heard that Conte wanted Emerson at Inter when Hakimi was sold - an example an dcould be a coincidence I dont know.

50m on Traore who is, as you say, one dimensional and i dont think that inteligent on the pitch would have worked for us..

Hey all apologies if this is off topic. But do we have a chat / thread about which players have been called up.

I just want to know which of the squad are going to get the full conte treatment over the next 2 weeks?

The club’s media channels usually feature a roundup of call-ups ?
