The first thing is, we must defend our title of "Best of the rest", should we lose that, then i hope it is to the scum and we take their position in the top 4. Also, If we do not make too many changes on the pitch, then a cup is well within our grasp, i don't care which one, (the FA cup will be nice tho`)! but above all, i will take another tour of Europe as improvement and consolidation!

I would love to snatch 4th spot especially if it is at the expence of the scum down the road, but I feel we are still just a little short (depending on summer signings of course). To challenge successfully we must improve our away record of last season while not compromising our home record. It would also be great to get our hands on a trophy for the first time in too many years.
In short my expectations for next season are improved away form (top 4 position will be obtained by doing this hopefully) and a trophy.

We need to start taking points off the top 4. we only managed 4 points from 8 games against them last season, which I think we all agree is not good enough if we want to break into the CL places. Arsenal took 15 points from Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool and ourselves last season, and only finished 8 point above us. That shows that if we can take points off Arsenal (a win is way overdue) and improve our performances against the other 3, then we should be very close to pipping Arsenal, without needing to improve much on our form against the other 15 teams in the Prem.

Of course this isnt easy, and the likes of Villa and Newcastle are likely to be more of a challenge next term, but its certainly do-able.

I fully expect us to finish the top 6 again, but to do well in a couple of cup competitions and maybe a final. My realistic hopes are 4th place, maybe even 3rd as Chelsea collapse after losing their best players and Morinhio and appointing Stewart Pierce, and the UEFA final.

As most have said - 4th is what I want.

I think we should field weakened sides for the early rounds of ALL the cup competitions...if that means early exits then so be it.

Getting 4th will benefit the club 100 times more than winning the UEFA, FA and League Cup...sad state of affairs, but it's true.

I will be very happy with 5th place again, however, would like us to end with a bigger point margain between us and 6th.

I think we'll end up 5th but close the gap further, and perhaps pull away from a few more teams. Depending on cup competition draws I'd expect us to be at least as strong in knockout's next year, and hopefully win a trophy by the end of it all.

id like to us to finish fourth. but would settle for finishing 5th again having taken points of the champions league teams home and away.

on the cup front winning ones the aim but getting to semis instead of quarters is an improvement

oh and possibly a few clean sheets please

^^^ Clean sheets! Eek

Yeah would be good, more consistency away from home and against the top 4 should give us the top 4 place we all want. I think this is realistic. Ideally winning a cup (preferably UEFA) would be great but far from predictable so not an 'expectation'.

Top 4 is what we need to a) keep Berbatov and b) attract the better players to use a current example: Torres.

4th

Obviously the glory of cups would be nice, but to keep our best players I think we need CL football

Not too sure that would be ideal. To improve our squad we need more quality players and that means even 2 quality players for each position and i dont think we can make it possible and make everyone happy by having less games in a season. So, having achieved top 4 and getting an extended run of games in the Cups like we did this season would be ideal. But until we can get more quality players to come in - especially to rotate players for UEFA Cup, FA Cup and the league that wont be much of a reality.

66pts, basically a 10% improvement. We can't say things like a top 4 finish, as there is nothing BMJ and the boys can do about the results of teams around us. We can only effect our own results and therefore should judge our progress on an improvement of our previous season's points tally. As for the Cup competitions, they are a bit of a lottery, obviously largelly depending on who we draw. So, I have no expectation rearding them.

That's rediculous. Since Jol has been here he's said he hopes for a top 6 finish, so why can't we say we want a top 4 finish? you better believe that's what Arsenal are hoping for this year.

The question was about expectation, not what we want. My point is we can do little about Arsenal's or Liverpool's results. If they both have 72 point seasons, we can be pretty sure we won't be finishing 4th. If this is the case, have the team really failed to live up to expectation, even if they achieve say 70 points?

1.Make sure of a top5 finish asap.
2.Play the kind of football we did 2nd half of this season, for all/most of next season
3.Win more games vs top4
4.Do better away from home
5.Get to a final

Expectations are dangerous things, generally exceeded or failed rather than met. It's difficult to expect things from Spurs and doubly difficult in cup competitions. So, sticking to the league, I would hope for a top 5 finish and pray for top 4.

The crux of the matter is that if the wrong teams strengthen we might struggle and if the right teams strengthen we might do well. Ultimately we can't control what anyone else does and have to look to our own ship. So, as far as expectations go I expect the club to continue to be run in the exemplory manner it has been recently, some consistency in performance on the pitch and a season of vocal, passionate support from all our fans that makes White Hart Lane a feared fortress of football.
