Suddenly the pressure of having players like Berbatov means that we almost have to finish in the top 4.

Unless we go out and buy a top class left winger and more importantly a world class CM we won't have a chance (Unless Taarabt is a Zidane 2). Let's not forget the football lessons handed to us by Arsenal last season. Our midfield looked 2nd class compared to their kids.

I'd like us to be battling Arsenal and Liverpool for 3-4.

Just 2 things: Hold on to all of our players. And work out what went wrong with defence and set peices.

And once we've discovered it was Chris Hughton, sack him. Right?

You said it. I am convinced after reading the other thread on CH that:

When CH was youth coach he had nothing to do with the lack of talent we produced
When CH was reserve team manager he had nothing to do with the lack of talent/backup we produced

CH is not the First Team coach. He does not even coach the team we see on the pitch.
He just holds a clip board for Jol apparently. So he has nothing to do with set peices and our defending.

Apparently me claiming CH has never really produced anything positive/tangable for us is Jol bashing.

CH after all got us 5th place 2 seasons running. Even though he had nothing to do with anything above.

I'd quite happily take 5th as long as we progress in some way - either by at least reaching a cup final or by substantially closing the gap on the top 4.

at least top 5 again at least, but also pushing for or maybe even getting the top 4 spot.

i think we might field a weaker team (fringe players) in the carling cup, and play a stronger team in FA cup and Uefa cup, so if we do, do that i would hope for at least 2 good runs and maybe a final apperance (and i really wish we could win one, but would take 4th over a cup)

basicly just an improvment on this year, and we just need a stable midfield and not have key players injured this season IMO

I'll wait until the transfer window is further along. For now I expect us to compete for the best players, at the end of the summer, I guess it depends what others have done.

The wonders of playing in such a strong league, eh!

Oh-oh! he's off..

And still quite incapable of recognising irony, apparently.

We've just managed something Spurs have managed only infrequently since the 50s and 60s, successive top six finishes. Three times on the bounce would suit me, provided we're a close threat to the Goons and Scousers from day one. As Joey says, we can only do our best, and a 70-point season would be a real achievement and show genuine progression, but it might not be good enough for a top four spot.

And please can we be spared this Caspar Milquetoast, 'Oh, I'm so worried our best players will leave if we don't get CL' bollocks? If they want CL, it's up to them to play that way.

What do I want? I want us to win the League, FA Cup and UEFA Cup.

What do I expect? Another top six finish, good runs in the cups and a home victory against one of Arsenal/Chelsea/Man Utd.

Well said Joey55. A 10% improvement on last season's total would represent very good progress. I would take 60 points and 4th, though, if that was possible. If points are shared more evenly then getting a lower total but still more than our rivals still shows improvement.

There's a feel good feeling around the club i suppose generally by how things are going for us. Over the past 10 years or so, we have been expecting too much from a mediocre squad. Nowadays either our expectations has been exceeded or at least matched.

The question was about expectation, not what we want. My point is we can do little about Arsenal's or Liverpool's results. If they both have 72 point seasons, we can be pretty sure we won't be finishing 4th. If this is the case, have the team really failed to live up to expectation, even if they achieve say 70 points?

True, but in the same way, manchester united would 'expect' to qualify for the champions league next year, as would chelsea, regardless of others.

I expect us to get top 4.

For me first and foremost is qualification for europe via the league.

I'd like us to win a trophy and my expectation is for us to finish in at least the 1/4 finals of all 3 (league cup, fa and uefa) cup competions

Overall I expect to see another season of progress. To play better away from home, to kill games off which we are leading and also to see 1 or 2 of the younger players start to try and make a push for a regular first team spot.

And finally I expect our fans to be even more supportive and louder than ever home and away and make White Hart Lane an imtimidating atmosphere for every team that play there, and not just Chelski, Manure, Ar*enal and Wet Spam!!

All of that will make me very happy to renew my ST again for next season!

4th is pretty ambitious with our wage structure and available funds. I'd be happy with 5th or 6th and some Silverware. I know that means Berbs would probably leave and I want 4th for CL footie badly, but realistically unless Arsenal play horribly, which is doubtful, they have a better squad than us. If we somehow find another almost Berb like talent through transfer in the midfield though, I could see us maybe breaking the Top 4.

To me this is a stupid topic - we all want the same thing glory for Spurs but realistic aims cannot be set out at this stage.

We should just sit back and see who we and the other teams buy in the next few weeks. Perspectives always change as squads change. At this point last season we were all going on about how strong squad was and then Carrick went and jumped ship, disrupting the start of our season and improving the blend at ManUre.

Gotto say, couldn't have said it better!
Its almost laughable how some seem to think Spurs will implode if this supposed 'right' to the top four next season doesn't mature.

Think most who put balanced views are of the opinion, points progression is first step.
