Tonight Adebayor tore his arse off defensively. He chased the keeper down 40-50 yards on several occasion, he put his body in to make it hard for defenders, and he didn't give defenders time on the ball.

You could say, he showed some passion and work ethic.

The praise stops sharply there. He missed a great chance, his passing and decision making were a joke, and his touch was on a par with Peter Sutcliffe.

Quite rightly, to a man the crowd moaned at Adebayor tonight, because work rate and passion are the bare minimum, and players in our team should be able to man age 5 yard passes.

So, why is this attitude of fans different with Scott Parker?

I feel sorry for anyone thats expected to be a world beater when they have been out for a long time, its hard.

But, whilst I haven't been on here a lot lately, the new place of work blocks forums, but post every match for the last 2 months, I see numerous people praising Scott Parker's performances?

Why is this?

His attitude has been spot on & he wins some tough tackles.

But

He has been atrocious in possession

He is the biggest culprit for slowing our attacks down at every opportunity, taking 15 touches when he needs two, allowing teams to organise themselves

He gets a rush of blood to the head at the mere thought of a forward pass and invariably gives it away when he attempts something creative.

But why does this go unnoticed, and he still reaps the praise? Whilst Adebayor (again, quite rightly) is slagged off left right and centre?

I think this really is the definitive proof that no matter your ability, if your willing to kick someone up in the air, the crowd will always love you.

Think the main difference is that Parker looks like he is trying when he does that but Ade just looks so uninterested at times. Also Ade is basically measured by goals and that is something he has barely delivered on this year so has fewer places to hide

Agree but I guess it's because that his main job is to screen the back four, win the ball back and give it. We all know he's not an attacking player. Win the ball and give it to someone capable. Last year he had Modric next to him and VDV in front of him. He's just got to win the ball, give it 10 yards and we're on our way. He's been exceptionally good at that. This year however he has Dembele next to him and Dempsey in front. Since the QPR game Dembele hasn't been able to beat players and seems oblivious to movement in front of him. With his form dropping off and Dempsey being as useful as Anne Franks drum kit it's meant Parker's had to do some forward passing. Which he simply isn't in the side for

Scott Parker came into our team and gave two legendary performances (Liverpool at home being one) in total reargaurd circumstances, really showing fighting spirit we had been missing.

He has been idolised since then despite declining performances (including some frankly abysmal ones)

In a midfield 5 with lots of movement and creativity his firefighting all action style fitted nicely, in a more workman like midfield with little movement, flair or creativity, he looks like a headless chicken that doesn't want the ball.

If his early performances for Spurs had been anything like his latest attempts, he'd have been Jenasoned (like jettisoned) out of the team by now.

The passing to him was pretty shit other than one amazing ball from Dembele, never seen so many balls a yard or two to the left of where a player can get it

Sorry but Adebayor did not work that hard tonight. He chased down the ball on occasion which is the minimum you would expect from a player at this level. Most of the game he did not look interested.

Even if Parker and Adebayor had the same work rate, which they dont, Parker can tackle and control a football, two of the things that Adebayor is lacking in at the moment. Adebayor just doesn't look like a £100k p/w footballer, in anything but his hairdo.

I've never been more upset with a player than Adebayor this season, he was one of the best lone strikers in the league last year, this year he has been pap. I would STILL play him ahead of Defoe every single day of the week, but my patience is really waning with him.

It's called perception, and if you bare with me, I'll try and explain.

Years ago when I got my first job on a IT helpdesk, I used to have a seat right at the back of the office, walking through an office full of about 200 people.

After about 2 months, my team leader pulled me aside to talk about to me about my attitude.

She told me that I had zero urgency, and walked like I didn't have a care in the world, she felt I was lazy and didn't care about the job.

Somewhat taken aback, because to me, I was working bloody hard, delivering over and above what should have been expected of me, I asked her more about why she thought that.

It turns out, that my walk through the office gave her the opinion that I was lazy.

I'm very tall - just over 6'7, and back then I was gangly as fuck, so for someone watching me walk, say against someone around 5'7 for that shorter person to walk at the same speed, they just look busier and more urgent.

Ridiculous I know, but it's plain and simple perception - I did get my team leader to walk alongside me, and she couldn't keep up with me, and I explained that she was picking on me because of my size - not intentionally of course, but it's a perception that no matter where I go, I have to deal with.

Same applies with Ade.
He is gangly, looks slow and that gives the attitude of not giving a fuck.

Compared to Parker who is shorter and looks way busier - thus giving the perception of giving a fuck.

This will never change and Ade will never get rid of that, because people are too short minded to notice things that aren't that obvious.

The Hobbits always struggle with us tall people, especially when it comes to Sport. I genuinely think sometimes they automatically think that because they are shorter than us they assume they are smarter than us as well. Short people just assume that tall people are lazy, dumb and slow and that they rule the world with their meddling little short people ways.

Adebayor gets stick because he's ex arsenal and his name was drawn in the pre season scape goat tombola. With Jenas, Bentley, etc. gone he's taking it on his own.

People have in their heads he doesn't care and is o good so read that into is performance regardless of how he plays. He was alright yesterday. He got little to no service but was interested, unlucky with at least one offside call I thought, nd Lyon set up very very well.

He needs to be cut some slack.

Did you notice who passed 3 of the 4 horrid balls that you speak of?

Adebayor was atrocious. But he did all the things that Defoe doesn't do when things are not going well. These things really help the team more then people realise. I bet Ade was way up on the ground covered last night. Lyon were pretty good at keeping the ball at times. Chasing down their back four minimised that greatly.

The problem with Ade is just the same as with Berbatov. Both act disinterested, but Berba looked moody, Ade looks happy but uncaring. Neither I believe are true.

Ade might not always have made himself popular, but he is being watched like a hawk due to everyone saying that as soon as he signs a contract he doesn't perform, so we have scrutinised every single element waiting for this to happen like some self fulfilling prophecy.

I am not saying he shouldn't be above criticism for a poor performance, but no more than any other player on the field and he will never come good if we don't cut the guy a little slack.

Whist watching it on TV I thought Ade was working hard, chasing defenders down, at times even in our half whilst Lyon were attacking. However, despite his 5 games at the ACN, he doesn't seem to have any touch on the ball. I appreciate that Defoe has been injured for a couple of weeks and Ade has been away, but Defoe hasn't scored since 26th December and Ade has scored 3 goals in 20 games (including sub appearances).

Unless they both improve, and quickly, any chance of 4th will go. We can't afford to rely on Bale scoring of freel until the end of the season. Despite Dempsey looking to be a bit slow moving he has scored quite well whilst playing up front, 5 this year. Is it time we selected him before Ade and Defoe? :cautious:

Adebayor has looked well off the pace this year but between an out of form him or defoe he does more for the team.

A big problem for me is that the midfield just doesnt create opportunities for the strikers like in previous seasons. We had modric and vdv who were able to drop between midfield and defence and then slip balls in for the strikers. This year we look so predictable in midfield. Hopefully Holtby can take more of a role behind adebayor and I think he has shown he can slot nice passes in behind the defence.

Not going to be popular but I also think Bale moving in off the left has created problems for us. He used to stay out wide on the left, stretching defences and then crossing in very dangerous crosses. Since he has started coming inside the space becomes more crowded and I've noticed Adebayor is drifting out to the left to find space when he really should lead the line.
