PSV Eindhoven striker Jefferson Farfan says he has rejected offers from Tottenham and Fiorentina to move to the Bundesliga with Schalke.

The 23-year-old is set to become new Fred Rutten's first big name signing since leaving Dutch side FC Twente to take over at the Veltins Arena.
Farfan told Peru: "I accepted the offer (from Schalke) because I wanted to play in a more competitive league.
"I had offers from other clubs. There was an offer from Tottenham in England, another from Fiorentina in Italy and one more from a Russian club."
The Peruvian hitman will reportedly cost Schalke 10million euros, making him the most expensive signing in the club's history.
He added: "What I decided with PSV was to look for a competitive team and obviously in a league which was a level above Dutch football, and for sporting reasons we accepted the offer from Schalke 04.
"I want to begin a new era in my life. With PSV I won four championships, I was the club's top-scorer, I always had the support of my team-mates and the fans.
"It went well for me in Holland and I think that it was about time to leave and look for new horizons."
Schalke have yet to officially confirm the deal.

Tosser. He was really good against us in the Wafer cup. Not sure where we'd have played him though.

Spurs cannot guarantee him regular first-team footy - Schalke can. He was not ready for the challenge, simple as that.
Or is he really telling the truth? So many times you hear players tell they turned down this and that club....for "that" club to come out and claim they never offered that player a contract.

Good for him. He made the right decision. Wouldn't have done well with us, to be honest.
Nice player but we've got better. Now. I expect somehow we'll get over this crushing disapppointment.

Reminds me of Defoe in more ways than just the way he plays. He wouild have remained on the bench for most of his contract unless he could oust Dos santos or lennon.

That's not on. Defoe alternated between sitting on his arse and standing offside.

oh well

we got Modric and Gio!!!

We got Mod and Gio, We got Mod and Gio, la la la la, la la la la

Thought Farfan was very decent against us, but like others have said, I think we have better and couldn't see him getting regular football with us

I would agree that the German Bundesliga is more competitive than our own league. More teams have a chance to win the title than in the premiership. We jump up for joy when we get a point away at any of the top 4.

this probably is bulls**t, we have not been strongly linked with him and no media or newspapers have written about our interest in him..

So you think interest in a player is dictated by media coverage of interest.... Right.... Why did we sign Modric then?

It's more open, true, but the overall standard is pretty pisspoor, especially compared to what it once was. Even the top clubs struggle when they come up against anyone halfway decent in the CL or UEFA. A few years back about the last side you wanted to be drawn against in Europe was a German one; now you rather look forward to it.
