Unless Kaboom has a drastic improvement in form I'd say he is behind Fazio, hell currently I'd say Dier is ahead of Kaboom when it comes to CB. I'm sure he will improve but lately he has looked poor, concentration levels seem goldfish like.

He's left sided apparently though which is a shame.
Good cover for Vertonghen.
I am assuming Poch likes a left foot and right foot combo.

1st choice - Vertonghen and Kaboul
2nd choice - Fazio and Chiriches/Dier

If the posters who froth at the gash whenever anyone even suggests the possibility that a hypothetical 'first XI' may exist in a manager's head if everyone was fit and available for a given game ("THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS A FIRST XI, IT'S A FUCKING SQUAD GAME THESE DAYS!!!one!:banghead::mad::banghead:") could please just restrain themselves for a few seconds, do the rest of us think that Fazio is likely to be starting ahead of Kaboul in most matches and/or big matches?
sod Kaboul. He has to get past Dier once Walker is back.

Terry Gibson on twitter...

"Also delighted with the Fazio signing for @SpursOfficial fantastic signing at that price. Big loss for @SevillaFC_en.

My brief on Fazio. Big, strong, aggressive & became the defensive leader at Sevilla. Decent on the ball, started at Sevilla as C mid.

At 6ft 4 he is not grease lightning but his positional play has matured at Sevilla over the last couple of seasons. Played with the better partner he will be an asset. @SpursOfficial fans will love his attitude. Compared to what other c halves have cost this summer a steal."

I trust Terry's opinions, he is a great judge of a player from the Spainish league :)

From everything I've read Fazio sounds like a combination of Dawson a few years ago and Kaboul. Which is a good thing imo as I'm a believer in one physically dominant CB and one ball playing CB.

The only worry is whether he can adapt to the pace of the PL, bearing in mind he's been playing in La Liga for some time. We'll find out soon.

I know nothing about him but we definitely needed a big powerful leader at the back. Cant wait to see the big man in the the one and only football kit that matters.

Love what our manager is doing, love his thought process.

I like the approach we are taking to the centre back position. Kaboul, Vertonghen, Dier and Fazio are all able to (and in fact, have done numerous times at points in their careers) play as midfielders, which says a lot about the kind of defenders we want. We want our defenders to be comfortable on the ball and able to start an attack quickly, not dally on it before a hoof up to the big guy when midfield options run out. Long gone are the days of teams electing to target one centre back for closing down as they know the other one won't be able to do anything constructive with the ball anyway.

Further to this, they're all big, strong lads (Vertonghen, despite appearing very laid back, one more headers than any other defender at Spurs in his first season if I recall correctly).

Yes, Fazio or Kaboul might be preferable against your bruiser forwards, while Vertonghen and Dier are more elegant in their distribution and ability to play, but all of them a pretty good at most things and exceptional at some. I think we have a very good selection of centre backs and I'm intrigued to see in what combinations we use them now.

I am interested in seeing who will lead the defence which is as important as the component parts in it.

why was his release clause so low?

I think last season was his breakthrough season where he really stepped up. I read somwhere that Sevilla tried to re-negotiate the release clause to make it higher, but he was having none of it.
