Ferguson and McGregor No Longer Scotland Players

Following on from the events of the past week - and specifically the last 48 hours - the Scottish FA has today confirmed that Barry Ferguson and Allan McGregor will no longer be considered for International selection by Scotland.

The decision was taken following further discussions today between the National Team Manager and the Scottish FA Chief Executive. This action has been taken in the best interests of the squad, the fans and the country. Everyone is determined to qualify for the World Cup and we must ensure that nothing is allowed to distract us from this goal.

What was with the V signs though, it's something an 11 year old school kid would do. All a bit embarassing really.

There must be more to this than drinking and V signs surely. To ban two players for life, just for having a bit of a booze and V signs, surely suspensions and docking pay is more in line with their actions? Why I figure there must be something going on that the public hasnt been told about.

It does seem very harsh.

They should have scratched their noses with their middle finger, much more subtle.

I dont think it all that harsh really. They both showed a total lack of respect towards the Scottish manager, their team mates and their country.

By comming down hard, the SFA probably hope that they've sent a message to the other Scottish players that such actions are unacceptable.

Can't see the English F.A having the balls to do something similar.

I thought it stood for victory  but guess not in this case eh?

Ferguson is an overrated twat anyway so probably good he will no longer play  a hard stance by the SFA but i think they are showing alot of balls by doing this, esecialy as ferguson was captain under afew other managers

stupid of them but it still seems rather harsh - i'm willing to bet that there's something going on behind the scenes and this was just an excuse / the final straw

Where did you hear this?

All the BBC say is Ferguson has been stripped of the captaincy, and both were fined 2 weeks wages.

Can someone please explain to us non-UK residents the whole deal with this v-sign, as to why it's so offensive?

was in the papers today saying both were put on the transfer list, all because of the drinking and there childish actions of sticking fingers up to the camers when watching the game
