MANCHESTER UNITED admit they would have to consider an offer of £135million for Cristiano Ronaldo from moneybags neighbours City.

New owner Dr Sulaiman Al Fahim revealed this week he would love to take the Portuguese wing ace across town to Eastlands.
United chief executive David Gill insists they are treating it ‘with a pinch of salt’ and doubts whether the bid will ever materialise.
But if they did firm up the move, he admits it would be up to the Glazer family and manager Alex Ferguson to make the decision.
Gill said: “I can’t believe he is serious at those levels and, anyway, we are not looking to sell our best players.
“But ultimately we would discuss any offer with Alex and the owners, as that sort of money is very large for one person.
“It would take a huge amount of money to take a player like Ronaldo across the city. But that kind of decision would be up to the owners.
“But he mentioned Torres and Fabregas in the same article. I think we can remain calm, wait and see what happens over the course of the next months and years, and not worry about it too much.”
Gill hinted the club was not over impressed with the way Al Fahim has gone about naming the players he would be interested in buying.
He added: “I have never met the gentleman, So I couldn’t say for sure whether he is serious or not. But that is a fantastic amount of money and would turn the industry upside down.
“Still, it is interesting that when Alex mentioned the Dimitar Berbatov signing from Spurs in advance that complaints were made to the Premier League.
“Yet he is publicly listing a host of players he claims to want to buy.”
United almost saw their top summer target Berbatov stolen from under their noses on an eventful transfer window day.
But he is not expecting much more business to be done in January by the champions — apart from trying to strike a permanent deal for Carlos Tevez.
He added: “From a squad perspective, Alex is very comfortable with it.
“The other piece of business we will look to do is to finalise the Carlos Tevez deal.
“But the competition in the squad is now first class.”
Italian giants Juventus have also laughed off reports of a possible City swoop for their keeper Gianluigi Buffon. The Italian national No1, 30, — the most expensive keeper in the world at £32.6m — is another star coveted by City’s owners.
But Juve president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli insists no amount of money would prise Buffon away.
He said: “It’s fantasy football, This summer there was another case of fantasy football, to be precise the story of David Trezeguet to Barcelona.
“That was fantasy football, and this is the same.”

So they've finally decided to admt that he mentioned Berb's name instead of blaming a supporters group for 'making it up'. Is anybody suprised that the redfaced idiot just blatently lied at the later press confence when he said he didn't?

I honestly just can't get over the arrogance of them! He is basically admiting there that SAF bare faced lied to the press when asked if he had quoted berb's name... and yet the guy is cosidered a godfather to managers and is chairman of the LMA!!

What is the betting that this is not even picked up on though by anybody in the press!!!

We all know nothing will happen. Man Utd are far too rich and powerful. Its a sad fact unfortunately. They can do what they like and nothing will be done against them. I just wish that the chairman from all the clubs outside the top 4, would stand up to them, and do something about the way those 4 clubs handle their transfers (although in truth, Arsenal are the exception to be fair.) Its such a shame that Daniel Levy is one of few people who will stand his ground. And all credit to Villa for holding firm against Liverpool over Barry.

how can we be surprised - I have been creeping about red cafe and their fans openly admit MU broke every rule in the book to get Berba and effectively paid the asking price to keep Levy's mouth shut. My biggest annoyance over this whole issue is that Levy rolled over and withdrew the complaints - it speaks volumes about what he sees as most important

Because we are a PLC - we do what's right for us and our shareholders. Man Utd being docked points does not help Spurs - getting an extra, say 5 million, does.

money over what is right is stupid.

we would be the first club to stand up to them.

The FA sucks, it should be investigating anyway!

Why did we not persue our complaint? It would have been a waste of time. Daniel Levy knows that he would get a lot more out of court than in court so to speak. We had the same situation with Chelsea and Frank Arnesen. The FA left it between the two clubs and we got a damn sight more than we could have gotten from the complaint to the FA.

At least we've all seen it clear as day all over SSN now. The FA have no excuse not to do anything. They wont do anything imo, and we'll all know for certain that the FA are a joke.

they can say what they want now about the transfer as our chairman basically accepted a bribe to keep our mouths shut when we had them by the balls.

Excatly, the FA is the governing body of English football. It should be investigating wrong doings regardless of wheter or not offical complaints are brought up.

We have took the hush money 3 times now (Chelsea, Liverpool and Man U) I can see both sides of the arguement.

Yes we should have made a stand and tried to right some wrongs in English football.

BUT ultimately, you know like I know sweet FA would have been done to any of these clubs had we persued our complaints and we would have just been taking the moral high road to end up in the same situation (with less money in our pocket)

The FA needs to start taking a tough line, but as someone said before... the FA is only concerned with the marketability of its product now days, and for this they need the top four (as the most marketable elements of their product) to be flying and thus selling their product.

The FA will act tough when it knows it can get away with it—with the likes of Rotherham and Luton and little non-league outfits. At the end of the day United would have got no more than a light slap on the wrist and a warning that they'd been very naughty boys and absolutely mustn't do this sort of thing again.

And they'd still have got the Bulgarian.

Am I alone in thinking this was all just a negotiating ploy anyway?
Manchester United hadn't made an offer or even approached us when Levy went public and reported them to the "authorities" upon which hey presto Utd went public and made an offer, not the right offer as Daniel Levy made clear, in fact he made it clear that nothing short of the full price would even make him consider dropping his complaint.
At this stage Utd were negotiating with Spurs and The "Authorities" and by this stage we wanted the full price, we didn't want to keep Berba anymore and we had made a decision and acted upon it which is always the best way when negotiating.

In the end we got our money Man Utd got shafted but by dropping our complaint we gave them a face saving way out which again is always good when negotiating.
A man doesn't feel so bad about shuffling out with his pants round his ankles if he can at least hold his head up having got something out of the preceding buggering.

We did the same thing to Liverpool with Keane just a little more quietly.

After all what did we stand to gain from continuing the complaint? nothing that would help us more than £30m and a reputation as bad ass tough negotiators.

I definately think that played a part in the negotiating of the deal. But i dont think Daniel Levy expected little competition for his signature. I think he was hoping to start a bidding war but far too little activity happened this summer, as far as world class players moving clubs. One thing i will say is, thank god for Man City.
