FM2014 Simulation Comparison to our current mess

Ok, so it's not real, but I ran FM2014 in beta mode months ago, back when we were still looking semi ok. I've dabbled with FM since it's first version, and while I'm not a total geek, I do respect the heavyweight lineup of ex pros they use for scouting the players in the game.

What I found was that Lamela never came good, he had an attitude problem. Townsend hit a wall and never really progressed either, no end product.

More worrying is the team balance and the tactical situation. I tried to match my tactics to the ones MOTD and my own observations showed we were trying to play.

It just didn't work. With no signings and these tactics, we finished 10th and had a shocking run of defeats to crap sides. I got sacked. Twice!

I repeated it, playing 442, attacking on the wings with pace and using creative players in a way that let's them play. Basically either using possession to carve out space or countering. I won the league.

It's not science, but I have found that FM is closer to reality than you might think.

We need tactics that work, a new man in charge and for Dawson and Naughton to be sold.

Alex Fergusson used to use Fifa to scout opposition teams and try and find the best possible way of beating them.

Actually that's not true, that would be stupid as it's a computer game.

Pointing out how the tactics we use just don't work.

Thanks for your support, knobs.

Didn't AVB admit to use FM to look at players irl when he was a scout?

The problem you've got here is that, whilst FM is a fun game, that's all it is. You can have the best database of players in the world (and they pretty much undoubtedly do), but the simulation side of things is hardly a great representation of real football.

I asked my magic 8-ball if we would finish in the top 6 this season.

It said "concentrate and ask again".

Science, bitches.

I won the league Premier league with bloody Crystal Palace playing 4-2-3-1. How can it be that close to real life when you can get teams like that to win the league on it.

Dear fooking god... y'see football fans these days are all impatient because they're all playing bloody FIFA and Champ Man (which has been rubbish since CM3 by the way)... expecting instant gratification.

Not so much instant anything mate. Just want the team to stop being humiliated. If we played to our strengths and stopped using tactics our current crop struggle with, it might help!

How many times have you seen Naughton embarrassed? Daws lumping the ball aimlessly? Capoue getting skinned?

Not all the players are bad, some are just out of position and that will crucify their confidence.

Others need to go.

Also, would playing Lamela after he scored in Europe have been a good idea?! What is AVB sniffing? He just has no clue, he's arrogant and unlike his mentor Mourinho, he has not got the talent, personal skills and tactical nouse to get away with it.

Literally exactly the same as my lineup, except I have Alex telles at left back. 5m, bargain.
