I'd be careful wishing too much sympathy on the guy. He's been arrested for death by dangerous driving - could well be that he was drunk, speeding or something. Evidently the police aren't treating this as a simple accident.
yeah I know but the guilt of killing is quite a lot I feel a lot of sympathy for the driver having to live knowing hes killed. I feel more sympathy for the family who are suffering 2 great losses

Former Plymouth goalkeeper Luke McCormick has been sentenced to seven years and four months in jail after admitting to killing two young children due to dangerous driving.

The 25-year-old also pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol during a hearing at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.

McCormick was more than twice the drink drive limit as he drove home from a team-mate's wedding on 7th June.

The goalkeeper caused a motorway collision on the M6, an incident which saw 10-year-old Arron Peak and his 8-year-old brother Ben lose their lives.

McCormick admitted to eye witnesses that he had fallen asleep at the wheel, resulting in the fatal crash.

The former England youth international saw his contract with Championship side Plymouth cancelled in the aftermath of the incident and he has been out of the game since then.

It's just a sad, sad story.

On one hand, a young footballer with a good career ahead of him, gets drunk at a wedding, wound up about his mrs cheating on him, decides to get up after a couple of hours sleep to drive to confront his mrs.
One of his mates pleads with him to stop at a station and not drive.
minutes later, he crashes into the back of a family, killing the two boys and almost killing the father.

It's irresponsibility at the highest. And he has paid the highest price for a stupid mistake.
7 years doesn't seem like a long time, but he has to live with this mistake for the rest of his life.

The poor mother and father, its so easy for me to say the above, but if it was my family, then I am not sure how I would feel, possibly wanting to kill the bastard.

Such a horrible thing, it really is.

I was watching a show last night on TV about drivers who cause accidents. Some lorry driver, drove into the back of traffic and killed 3 people. Because of his one msitake, he ended up in prison for four years and has to live with that guilt.

Maybe they should teach this kind of stuff whilst you learn...

It's been reported that he'll probably only serve three years.

Friends pleaded with him not to drive his car but he wouldn't listen. He'd been on a huge bender and no way should have been behind the wheel. In effect, he turned his car into a lethal weapon. Of course he's sorry now but that's really not acceptable. There may not have been malice intended, but he had actually been supporting a campaign for road safety so has no excuse for his behaviour.

Result, two gorgeous little boys dead, the father seriously injured and now in a wheelchair and a family destroyed.

He should serve the full term (the maximum is 14 years and I believe he should have got that). He will very likely play football again when he comes out, he will still be young enough. If someone like Joey Barton can still be accepted by a football team, of course he will be too.

How would we feel if it was our friends or families who had been shattered like this through such thoughtless recklessness? There has to be a tougher message put out to anyone else who thinks they can drink and drive and get away with it.

Your right Cosmic, I didn't mean to make my post sound so sorry towards the fella who done the act. I was talking to the wife, who said that most judges for road accidents never give the full sentence, because living with the guilt is enough, (her response not mine).
Although even if he got 14 years, he would probably be eligible for parole after 5 years.

The bloke should go to jail, he made a serious mistake and it caused a huge tragedy, poor kids. I'd be devestated if it happened to my family, and would probably end up in prison on a murder charge if it did.

I saw that too. On the one hand I thought the prison sentence was harsh, because it was an accident and he's not a threat to society. On the other hand, I think it will help him cope a lot better knowing that he's being punished for his mistake. And obviously it will make the family of the deceased feel better.

Doesn't compare to this story though. I have no sympathy at all for drink drivers.
