Which ones can you think of?


I'll give a couple:

Lennon offers 'nothing defensively'. IMO he does a lot going back - probably more than he did offensively last season

Ashley Cole is 'great going forwards'. Ok, he gets up there. But he just makes up the numbers - how many assists/goals does he get? Compare him with Leighton Baines/Contraero/Walker...


Defoe is fast. He's not - at least not particularly. He's sharp at times though.


Huddlestone doesn't work hard enough - he has been shown to cover more ground than almost every other player in a Spurs shirt this season

Modric is lightweight - he is actually very strong for his size


Bale isn't skilful - yes he is :duh: some people seem to think he is just fast!



There's a few of mine. Do you agree/disagree? There is bound to be a few arguments from this as the point is that they are stereotypes that everyone believes so it should make an interesting thread! What are your footballing myths?

This is England's golden generation, well now ending (nothing ever suggested it was)

Crouch has a good touch for a big man (its not that he doesn't its just people have taken it to mean he is better with his feet then his head, when this is far from true)

Wingers in the style of Lennon, Walcott, S Wright-Phillips, Albrighton etc. etc. Have no footballing brain (maybe a fair criticism for some of those players but overall is just a way to put down players with pace who's main job is to take people on)

Having only one striker up front is defensive, this really annoys me as it's far from the truth.

Consistency. You're either good enough to deal with the different challenges posed by different teams or you're not. Nothing to do with consistency.

Bulldog spirit. English players don't have more grit and determination than other countries. It's just our last grab at misplaced arrogance.

Describing internationals as useles/crap etc. Learn some vocabulary morons the likes of Lampard, Rob Green, Glen Johnson are far from crap.
