Been confirmed they won't feature in the 3rd game so none of the 3 will which is the best we could ask for. Glad some sense has been found
Exactly. And it's not just "playing for one's country" - if you're Argentine, playing against brazil is like England-Germany on steroids. If you have a Netflix subscription, watch the first 90 seconds of "Molly's Game" for a succinct summary.People have to realise it’s not just as simple as players not giving a f**k about their clubs, a lot of these nations put a huge amount of pressure on their players to play, often threatening them with future expulsion if they don’t turn up. Not saying that is what happened here, but I would say it’s a fairly good bet that Gio and Romero were strongly advised to go. These are also important matches and playing for ones country is the pinnacle of football for a lot of players. People calling out any of our players for going to play for their country is a little much to be honest. Really this is on the Argentinian FA more then our players.
I don’t quite understand the timeline of events on this.
Maybe that’s why, but I’m not really bothered that they wanted to play for their countries. I don’t think it’s right that clubs could stop players from playing competitive international games. If they miss some time, it’s annoying but it’s par for the course with the Covid stuff at the moment. We’re used to players missing game with the African Cup.
What I don’t understand is if the rules of 2 weeks quarantine from England are true, how the coaches thought they could get very public london based footballers to not get noticed?
Honestly I think October we will be on several red lists and it will need FIFA to step inGiven the Bolivia game was on a Friday even without quarantine they would never have been ready for the Saturday match. Not looking forward to this all kicking off again in October
I get it. Playing for you country is a huge honor. What GLC and Romero fail to realize is if they keep this "stop/start" cadence to their respective seasons ( with all the travelling and isolating etc ) they will eventually tire out and lose form before the year is out and some other Argentinian players, who got to keep a stable schedule, could take their places. Unless the Argentinian manager and FA have guaranteed GLC and Romero a place in the WC squad, they still need to perform for us to make that final WC roster.

Sanchez and lo celso cannot afford another indifferent season. I really thought this season they could be regular starters, but instead, if they are just going to drop in every so many weeks, then unfortunate as it is, they've made their choices and will have to live with the consequences.I get it. i think they should be allowed to make that decision. but if they do make the decision they shouldn't be paid the club wages for the quarantine period.that's fair isn't it?There is more to it than them getting tired - if they are not playing for their clubs then they will simply not get selected for their country after a while. I am hoping Rodon and Dier form an amazing partnership now and that Romero and Sanchez are forced to realise the hard way that swanning off every 6 weeks for internationals when they have to quarantine for 14 days is simply not acceptable for anyone.
I don't think Romero is safe. If he's missing for a large part of the season, his chances in the side will be very limited. He may have been frozen out completely but with Sanchez also missing, Nuno can't afford to freeze them both out.Sanchez and lo celso cannot afford another indifferent season. Romero probably thinks he's safe for now and can prove himself in the long run. Any due diligence would have picked up what could happen this season, so maybe it was already priced in.
