Or it's poker again and we want Coentrao to think we at least have other options so he can't just demand what he wants and think we are desperate and will pay it.

I'm in proper conspiracy mode tonight but if we are still in negotiations with Coentrao about his pay then having other options give us some leverage we didn't previously have.

I have mocked this guy's name for quite some time now. Hilarious he may end up in a Spurs shirt.

Didn't realise he was 31, i'd prefer we brung in a younger LB with potential

Don't see the point of a swap

Because Rose could be our LB for quite some time. Balzaretti provides valuable experience for the immediate term.

I think that's the point, a 31 year old LB can still produce for a year or two, but at the same time if we buy a Coentrao it basically limits all of Rose's opportunities.

It's a tough situation but I rate Balzaretti and one thing I am sure of is that he has a good cross on him.

I know what you're getting at, but surely we should just use BAE if we want an experienced LB? he's 29 aswell now.

Or at the very least if AVB doesn't rate BAE sell him and loan Balzaretti as cover, thats if Contreau isn't coming.

If we're selling Bale we should have the money to go out into the market and buy a quality left back of the right age.

Roma seem to be the ones driving the idea of the swap.

A 31 year old for a 29 year old BAE is not that greater deal. Roma bought him a year ago for 4.5m euros, whereas BAE should be worth closer to £8m+.

Hope we can detatch this from the Lamela deal - otherwise we probably lose value on the swap plus the risk of BAE failing the medical plus the risk of delaying the Lamela deal.

The only plus point of the deal is to rotate him and Rose - within a year or two Balzaretti will have retired. Long enough for AVB to assess Rose as a Spurs LB
