would of thought Modric or Tommy would of been in front of him..But it wont bother me at all like BC said hes a Spurs player now.Fuck his past

You having a fucking giggle mate? Moders? Captain?:rofl::rofl::rofl::stupid::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

You do realise that this isnt under 11's football in the Cambridge Colts District League (or something similar?) - Its PROFESSIONAL football...

Do you honestly think that Modric would be a good captain? Can you honestly see him rallying the team, dishing out order - even being the one who has to go and speak to the ref? Mwahahahahahaha

He's a great player - but captain material? Nah.

Could it be that this was something that was disscused in training and all the other players thought he would be best for the job?

Why not. He's a spurs player now and he's possibly the only natural leader we have in our whole squad.

Doesn't bother me and if it bothers any of our players they should grow the fuck up and get on with the job they are paid to do.

Probably the most sensible post you've ever made lol, same goes for the supporters

I don't agree with all this "he must earn it" stuff - the captain is there to organise the team on the pitch and so if Gallas is the best available 'organiser' then the job should be his.

Lets not be too small minded abot this. Some players will never be captain material if they play their whole career at Tottenham. The captain 'pool' at Spurs has not been more than a puddle for too many years unfortunately. Gallas is a leader and captain. The telling point would be who in the squad would actually stand up and say 'it should have been me?' No one! Give him the armband he would do on remote control:)

I am getting tired of the "noooooo, not Gallas as captain" drama queens, if it was Van Der Vaart nobody would bat an eyelid even though he just joined. People really must get past the "he's played for the scum so he's an evil seed" garbage. We are in the big time this season. Leave the midtable table fans to concern themselves with childish dramas.

I choose to concern myself with victories.

I would bat an eyelid.

I don't think any player should walk into a team and instantly be made captain on their debut at this level.

Especially not someone who was stripped of his captaincy and had it handed to a 21 year old kid.

I choose to concern myself with track records and team harmonies.

Bollocks.

Whether you agree with his past tantrums or not Galas has shown that he wants win at all costs. Players need a voice of passion and drive to keep them on their toes. Edgar Davids did wonders in this regard and this sort of contribution should not be underestimated.

i agree, he will be the oldest and most experinced player in our side and probably OUR WHOLE SQUAD so why not have him, yes he had that massive strop but do you honestly think he would do that again? to be honest it does sit a bit uncomftable with me but he is the obvious choice. whats the point in having modric etc as captain just because they've been there the longest, it doesnt just work like that in any walk of life, its the best person for the job that gets it and like it or not gallas is a leader/captain.

i wonder had we sign puyol or somebody like that and he was made captain straight away would the reaction be the same

i doubt it.

i'd be more unhappy with it because it's his first game with the club, not because of his history. seems like an appointment that should be earned through loyalty as much as presence on the pitch.

This is my reason why I am against, I don't think there's ever been a player that's had his debut match and given the captain's armband in the same match!

I fully agree that he is a natural leader and could be a potential captain in the future, but not on his bloody debut!

I disagree. I think people just want to believe he's this messiah, a huge leader. I see a track record of stripped captaincy, tantrums and own goal threats.

A fine player he may be on his day, but I feel he needs to get into the side and earn the right to captain us.

I don't believe he is that Messiah. But I do believe that he has passion.

Our captains have been nondescript for years. Hell, with Keane out of favour I think our last consistant leader was probably Teddy. I say give Gallas a chance. There's nothing to lose. If he's no good then the armband goes to someone else.

I see a player who cares hugely about the game, wears is heart on his sleeve and only expects of his team mates what he expects of himself.

I dont belive he's a messiah, what i do beleive is in the absence of king/dawson he's the best candidate to lead the team out.

Cana was made Sunderland captain before playing his first competitive game.

And then he was sold.

As long as the captaincy is going to a player who would be a suitable captain, I literally cannot see an issue with making a player the team's captain on their debut - I've tried, but I actually cannot comprehend why anyone would care one way or the other.

If we'd signed, say, Steven Gerrard or Roy Keane (or some other player who was clearly head-and-shoulders above everyone else in the Potential Captain stakes) at the beginning of a season, I bet every single member on SC would have absolutely no problem with them going straight in as captain on their debut, because they would clearly be the best man for the job. The captaincy should be given to the player most suited to that role, not as some kind of long service award to players who have served their time but aren't natural leaders.

If Gallas is the person in our squad who is best equipped to provide leadership to the team in today's game (and I believe he is today), then he should get the armband without question - I just don't see how there is a justifiable position to argue against that.

We need to think with our heads, and not with our hearts on this one. Ok, we may not like it because of his gooner roots and the fact he's a twat. BUT - he's a quality player, he's got bags of experience, he's a proven winner, he'll shout and gee up the team - in my opinion, he's the ONLY obvious choice as captain in King's absence. Simple as that.

When I first read the headline I was a bit shocked but it does make sense as long as when King plays he is given the armband back unlike the fiasco with keane
