Harry has always said that he sees bale eventually moving to left back in the future. But his attacking play is just soo good, i fear it would just be a waste in defence. At left back, he can overlap when we are attacking but when he starts left midfield, he frightens the full backs in front off him every time! Its in his nature to go forward and playing left mid means he also gives us the option of relieving pressure on the side when were under the cosh. He wouldn't be able to do this playing left mid.

Also i'd just like to mention kaboul, jenas, van der vaart and crouch last night. They all put in brilliant performances. Along with bale of course.

If you can here a faint rumbling sound coming from somewhere in the distance, don't worry. It's just Starting Price's head getting ready to explode.

I have a question.

Would you have played Roberto Carlos and Cafu as wingers in their prime?

No no, wait. The real issue here is whether Bale is a left back or a left mid.

It needs to be resolved ASAP.

How many times has this been done now???

Is a new thread on Bale at left back or midfield going to be started after every bloomin' match he plays in?

Nope.

The statement you were looking for was "he is so good, he can play both depending on who is fit and who we're playing"

Yes. Even when, on the complete off chance that he has a bad game in a certain position, be it LB or LW.

It will depend on the opposition, if he plays left wing all the time he can be man-marked out the game or the opposition will double up on him, if he plays left back then running from deep will cause the opposition far more problems.

Ask Gareth Bale where he wants to play.

Let him play there.

Sorted.

I think he could be a world class left back. I think he could be one of the best left wingers of the premier league era if his current progress contunies..

I know which excites me more as a spurs fan. Carr was a great, great player in 99, but it was Le Gin that had me fizzing at the slit.

Even the aforementioned Cafu and Carlos were tremendous full backs, but I would take have Ronaldinho thank you. They wouldn't have been as good a winger as Bale.

Yours Chris Hughton, Mine Chris Waddle.

I honestly think he can be a modern day winger who switches wings. I'd like to see him with the freedom to roam like he does for Wales, but also to see more of him on the right cutting in and taking shots on.

I think he'll be every bit better than Robben at that. He'll do all the attacking stuff, but get back and help the fullbacks a lot more.

All these great wingers like Ronaldo, Robinho, Ronaldinho and Robben lack that work rate of Bale. He can surpass them all.

Nope.

This is the full and correct statement. Simple.

Let's all start an individual thread stating where we think his best position is, or, better still, just have it in our sigs, so we can be identified as for or against, proa nd anti (The Reds and The Greens for students of Medieval Byzantine history).

Bale is not a good defender, Benny is defensively much better than Bale, Bales positioning as a left back isn't great so we should play to his strengths attack attack and attack
