100% this - if he said anything different then it would be mental and rather out of character. All he's done is discussed the deal and acknowledged what that deal entails, now the ball is back in Real's court to decide if they want to pay him off, discuss a different deal with us or what.

Imo, football aside, I think Bales handled this whole thing with Real very astutely. They gave him a contract - an obscene contract - and he intends to claim every penny and I can't fault him for that. Suggesting that he wants something other than the already agreed to arrangement would jeopardise that.

It's quite possible that Levy is helping proof read his statements and the pair of them laugh at how Real are finally being held to one of these, frankly, ridiculous contracts they throw around, knowing that if Real do have any desire to draw a line under this and get him off their books both Bale and Spurs could benefit. Until then, the deal sits.
Couldn't have said it better. Some in our fan base just make me facepalm. The boy is not our player, we're borrowing him, all he has said are facts and then it's all "well fuck you then, bye!"

Give me a break

He's the best paid and arguably most loved player at the club.

...which, sadly, is absolutely irrelevant to the contract side of it all. If how much we loved a player had any sway on their contract, I'd still have Ginola & Hoddle in the squad.

Bale knows that all he has to do is play football and when asked, repeat what's written on that contract. If Real decide to buy him out, or if they want to trim his wages a bit by letting him stay with us another year, we're now in a position to barter even harder, but if he'd said that he was loving it here and wanted it to be permanent, Real would hold the high ground to offer him less, if that's what he really wants.

All he's done is said, "Thanks" when he signed the contract and every time someone brings it up, he just shrugs and goes about his day, let the lawyers sort that out - which is smart as fuck, imo, and if he does stick around then we're in a much stronger position to bargain for his services.

I don't see the cunning negotiating strategy behind saying it was always the plan to go back to Madrid. The option to extend at the same 40-60% pay share is supposedly already in place. The worst case for Madrid is Bale returns and they pay 100% of his wages. Or they buy out the final year of his contract, which is the same thing in practical terms. Best case for them is the deal continues and they pay 60% of his wages. How does Bale saying it was 'always the plan' help THFC in any way? The only party I can see benefitting is Bale because it may make Madrid keener to pay him off and then he's a free agent a year early.

How does Daniel Levy benefit from what Bale said?

Funny how some react with anger at this quote. Like he's disloyal or some shit. He's at loan this season and have a contract with Madrid. Until anything else has been agreed, there's nothing more to say.

Show us the anger posts?

How does harm or hinder us or Daniel Levy? The Club, Daniel Levy and fans know the situation. It's the only thing he can plan for unless we ask him to stay. He wasn’t asked if he was leaving he was asked if it was distracting him that his future hadn't been sorted out. As far as he knows he is here for the one season.

Did he ever say goodbye? Only a couple of disappointed tweets after Wales went out of the Euros. Nothing about leaving us that I could see.
