We can't sell him. We have to show that we won't be bullied into selling our best players time and time again. All I've heard people say is that 'historically' we're a selling club. We can change that now, cause otherwise we will never compete at the top.

This notion of being a 'selling club' is utter bollocks in my opinion.

You constantly hear people referring to a 'selling club', but you also constantly hear people saying 'you can't force an unhappy player to stay'. If you don't sell a player and allow him to run down his contract, like Sol Campbelll, and leave on a free, then what does that make you? A fucking stupid club.

I've been optimistic up until that JJ ITK.

I would be heartbroken if he left, this is our one shot at a title and it's being taken away by us by some smug Madrid twats who think they can do whatever they want. Just hold your nerve Levy.

Who'd have thought little old Spurs could have a player that could go for £90 + million. Never thought I'd see this day.

Pardon the intrusion ladies and gents, I have been reading contributions on the SC site for a while now but until now have never contributed personally. I have been at work for the last week and done absolutely f*ck all, I sit with 2 other people and have barely said a word to either of them (neither of them like football which don't help) because I have been consumed with all things Spurs, but now the furore surrounding our No.11 has really starting to wind me up!

Over the years when we have sold key players the team has evolved and IMO improved, we certainly haven't gotten worse! My big fear this time around is that GB will simply leave a hole which is too large to fill.

I really hope Levy sticks two fingers up at RM and keeps Bale from their clutches, cos with him and a proper striker in the team I really believe we can challenge for honours this season.

Thanks for reading!

No it isn't. If bale is sold we have to agree to it, and you can blame us.

Really don't think we will move on if we sell Bale, at best I think we'd stand still, which would mean next summer us having to put up with teams tapping up the likes of Lloris, Sandro and Vertonghen.

We just seem to be stuck in a vicious circle at the moment and if we are to ever break that circle, move on and progress, then we have to keep our top players.

I meant as a fan. We'll have our "mourning" period having lost him but at the end of the day we'll get over it and support the team regardless.

As a club it might take longer but we'll move on there, too.

Keeping hold of the other assets will depend who we replace Bale with and how well we do. As I said in my previous post - I have faith in Levy, Baldini and AVB to do us right in the long run.

They can keep Di Maria, we'll have the cash. He's a good la liga player but I'm not sure he'd be any better than Townsend in the prem.

Bale would be a silly boy to go now imo, and if he does go I think he will soon discover the grass isn't always greener. He has had one amazing season for us but that is all, the pressure on him to keep that standard up at Madrid will be enormous, not to mention the new language and trying to settle in a new country. A few bad games and the fans will soon be on his back, plus he will probably be compared to Ronaldo, and that would not be good, because as wonderful as he is, he is no Ronaldo. Another season with us, being our star player, and hopefully getting us into the CL would be much better for him. Then he can go next season, I don't really get why he would be in such a hurry to leave tbh.

I'm afraid if he goes I might be too bitter to wish him well, because I think he owed us another season :(

Jesus Christ - Based on what?

Seriously are people actually thinking rationally about this?

Di Maria is a very good player that has represented played top level football including Champions League and World cup. Townsend hasn't even completed a full season in the Premiership.

Am I missing something here but can someone tell me why people are comparing Andros Townsend to Di Maria?

This should not be underestimated, the pressure on the kid to produce will be immense.

Whilst I agree with pretty much all of that and it definitely would be good for his development to stay another year, I don't think I'd hold any ill feeling towards Bale himself. Unlike Modric and Berba I think he's handled himself very well during this saga. He hasn't kicked up a fuss or refused to play for us or anything. If he has asked to go he's done it privately and he gave it his absolute all for us last season repeatedly saving us.

I'd hate for him to leave but if, as is looking increasingly likely, he does end up going, then I hope he does well and I think he'd deserve a big cheer if he were to return to WHL with Madrid at some point.

I am not so sure Levy would be doing it for the "good of the club" as has been said. I do think he would be doing it for the good of the company, and this could mean waiting it out until deadline day, getting the max for the player and leaving Spurs short again for the start of the season.
