mmmmm. I've been thinking and I really shouldn't.

What if we are using our "Special relationship" with Madrid on this deal. We have told Madrid that if we do not make champions league next season and Bale is up it for you can have him for "X" amount. Deal done. What we need is for Madrid and their PR machine Marca to get Bale in the press as much as possible. Tottenham will stay quite and let them do their thing and make sure the world knows about Gareth Bale.

With Mysterys latest ITK, Bale has been signing endorsements left right and center off the back of this. Should Bale not want to go next year we will give them some money in a brown envelope.

I love a good conspiracy theory.

I would love for that to be true.

I'm so happy to be on vacation with only intermittent internet access. Every couple of days I log on to see what's up, and read something like, we are "bracing" ourselves for an imminent world record bid in the next 24 hours. Levy's "resolve will be tested" as "wantaway" Bale has made clear to "sources close to the player" that he wants his "dream move" to RM this summer. Etc. Etc. Repeat every few days. I wonder are these articles written by trainees, or just by some bit of software?

Think the latest ITK makes sense. Keep him for one more year. Real sell Ronaldo next year and replace him with Bale. We get Isco as part of the deal.

How much compensation would we have to pay EA, BT Sport, ESPN etc. if their star man isn't here next year?

Tell you what, all this media attention isn't harming Gareth and his agent at all is it. Exposure that was already at Full Pelt has trebled to Supersonic. I bet his Sponsors are wringing their hands and the price of further endorsements will surely have doubled.

Even Ronaldo needs to mention Bale to get any media time!

Doubt we'll have to pay fuck all,but we won't earn anything out of it if he doesnt fulfill the contracts.

Something like this wouldn't surprise me. Perez has to look like he's ready to break the bank to bring in Galacticos. Levy likes to look like the ultimate hard bargin man (not to say he isn't). This prolonged saga makes them all look good, as well as having our name splattered all over the press daily. I'm here in the south of Italy and I've heard people on the street talking about "Bale" and "Tottenham", and even "the president of Tottenham is supposed to be impossible to make deals with". Great exposure for us. These are all tricky characters, and they only leak what they want. Don't imagine that the press know more than we do, they only repeat what's intentionally leaked to them. The truth could be almost anything.

plus, PLUS..... (excited)

Ronaldo stalls his contract so that Madrid can campaign "Brand Bale" and then when its starts to die down as the Prem starts, low and behold, Ronaldo signs a new deal to keep fans happy and still makes Perez look good.

Bloody clever bunch this lot.

Don't forget the deadline day signing of Luis Suarez in to the bargain ;)

I think this is basically it. Fun to speculate, anything we hear (from the media, from ITKs, and especially quotes from players and managers) is potentially dubious, sheerly due to the incredibly high stakes riding on this (don't forget, if this happens it will be the biggest transfer in the history of the sport...it's kind of a big deal).

I have some ever-so-slightly concerning news.

A mate at work (my job is in Times Square) has just texted to say they've pulled down the huge NBC Gareth Bale poster and have replaced it with a generic football one. I'll get a picture and post it once I get there.

I'm assuming they're just playing it safe, but I really liked & felt proud seeing him up there.

Now I'm sad.

There's a gooner at work who is 100% sure Bale is off (opinion). Not ready to hang my balls on the line and and go all out attack saying he's staying. Hope the Bale staying info is true though! An appearance vs Espanyol would be a good start.
