there was no way he was going to play for Wales this week IMO, so this news doesn't really change much for me. it's a friendly, so I can't see how Coleman would've taken much persuasion (either from us or Gareth himself) to go along with the being injured line.

this "injury" is just far too convenient for me. first it was a buttock injury, then all of a sudden it's his foot. riiiiiight....

Well I just saw video of him on SSN training on his own and being closely looked at by the Wales medical team. Why would he be doing that if there were no injury?

He is injured theres no doubt about that but just how injured is he, would he have played if there was no potential transfer etc, those we cannot answer, but yes he is inured

It's true that he looked to be moving freely in training today. However, we know officially that he has been injured. In AVB's view, he doesn't want to risk him. It's up to Wales whether they risk him or not, which is why AVB said he might play for Wales but not against Palace. That's how I see it anyway.

BBC reporting :

Gareth Bale has joined Wales ahead of Wednesday's friendly against the Republic of Ireland.

But the Football Association of Wales say a foot injury means the player linked with a move from Tottenham Hotspur to Real Madrid will not play.

well if he was pretending to be injured, would he not be doing the exact same thing?

Yesterday's (or was it Saturday) ITK suggested that AVB won't play anyone unless they are absolutely 100% fit, so any sort of discomfort or pain would rule any player out.
Have to say that I agree with that approach at the start of the season. Last thing you want is players starting the season with niggles that flare up good and proper midway through the season, resulting in longer term damage.

With regards to "moving freely" - I have a shoulder and arm problem at the moment. It's annoying as anything, but I have full movement - just hurts to do it. No-one else notices or is aware of it, because it's not enough to cause me to wince or complain, just uncomfortable. Could be the same thing with Bale's foot.....

Maybe we've just asked Wales not to risk him at all with the game being a friendly and the season starting this weekend. The Wales medical staff don't want to aggregate his injury with a full contact match. I doubt there's any conspiracy.

agreed.

He is obviously trying to keep himself out the limelight and out of a spurs shirt. These 'injuries' will continue until he is sold or September 3rd rolls around

Good to see that the ITK's were right in saying Bale was actually injured and it wasn't a cover-up.

If Real Madrid have dropped their interest - time to offer the new contract. We won't sell to United in my opinion. People are mentioning Berbs and Carrick but we weren't really a rival to United back then.

I've never been so happy that one of our own players is injured... Not that I want him injured... But you know what I mean.

Gareth Bale ruled out of friendly with Ireland

Updated: Monday, 12 Aug 2013 17:44 | 0 Comments

Gareth Bale won't be risked in this early season friendly

Tottenham winger Gareth Bale will not feature for Wales in Wednesday's friendly against the Republic of Ireland in Cardiff.
The 24-year-old trained on his own at Wales' Newport base this afternoon but his fitness will not be risked as he recovers from a foot injury.

Bale, who has not played for Spurs in nearly a month, has been widely linked with a world record transfer to Real Madrid.

Bale was understood to be concerned at doing further damage to his foot with the move potentially on the horizon, and a Football Association Wales spokesman confirmed to Press Association Sport he will not be in Chris Coleman's matchday plans.

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas had said last weekend he did not expect Bale to be fit for the north London club's Barclays Premier League opener against Crystal Palace on Sunday, but the winger travelled to south Wales to meet up with his international team-mates this morning.

Despite being unavailable to play the Republic of Ireland, Spurs are happy for Bale to remain in camp with Wales where he will continue to train and will be in the stands at Cardiff City Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Bale is the third player that has been ruled out for Wales. Earlier today Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey and West Ham defender James Collins withdrew from the squad with ankle and knee injuries respectively.

Swansea full-back Jazz Richards and Brighton midfielder Andrew Crofts have been called up as replacements.
