I read POTL's ITK as GB being off. And if we've been paid handsomely enough for him and get the right players in, I'm content with that. Bale was incredible for the second half of last season, but when you rely on one player so heavily, you're only one Charlie Adam challenge away from having a gaping hole in your team. Or from his value dropping significantly a la Gascoigne, whose sale price dropped from £8m+ to £5.5m after his knee injury. Replacing Bale with multiple players, most of whom are of a higher level than the rest of our squad should work out better for us. It should give us cover and depth, versatility, and the ability to play the way our head coach wants us to play.

It looks, Lamela permitting, as if we're getting the right players in, so I just hope we've got the fee and terms we wanted. Time will tell on the latter, and I suspect we'll hear two different stories about what it actually turns out to be. My heart's a little sad he's going; my head says it's the right decision for us and a great opportunity to take another step towards Spurs ultimately becoming the club that players aspire to playing for at their peak, rather than a step along the way.

Either way, finally shutting down this circus one way or another (fun as it's been at times) is surely a good thing for the team. Onwards and upwards, COYS!

it could mean anything though, clear as mud

ill be disappointed if Madrid beat Levys price down to ariound 80.

Out of principle and the way they acted I thought we would go to town on them, i reckon they will see this as a victory if so

personally think if they want bale but want to offload players to the arse then levy should step in and have a word along the lines of if you want bale dont strengthen our rivals. might be cheeky but fuck it were meant to be in a partnership arent we?????? or is it an abusive relationship lol

I agree - could be either way. I hope it means Bale stays and his reasons for turning down £100m However if he takes the £££ and says oh by the way heres Vlad, Willy and Coco I can live with that....

There is an astonishing amount of assumption in here.

Assuming Levy wanted 100m+
Assuming Because Bale has contracts he can't go
Assuming Madrid can't finance it

There's an old saying about assuming.

very true - and apologies for coming across in any attacky way.

I agree that we previously havent covered ourselves at all well. But weve never had 90m in the bank to spend either.

Oh I didn't take it that way, mate. We're just discussing. :) True, and it looks like the club is trying to do it the correct way this time with Bale if we can seal Willian, Coentrao and Lamela first. I'll be sad to see Gareth go, we'll have a much stronger squad overall but it'll be interesting to see in the short term how it will affect our results or if the new signings can get off the ground immediately and have an impact.

AVB had assurances GB wouldn't be sold!
Some players also had these assurances!

Maybe DL is going to reiterate that stance

I don't disagree with you - POTL's been far from specific. if Levy's going to explain why he's turned down £84m/£93m/£100m, then while I'm not certain it's the best decision for the shape of the team and squad for the next few years, I'll thoroughly enjoy hearing him stick it to RM and look forward to watching GB bang in some more sensational strikes next year. I won't be upset.

I just sensed a change in the air last night, there seemed to be more noise than usual that the deal might have been done, which most likely influenced my interpretation of what DL might be about to explain. DL knows a damn sight more about running a football club than I do so I'm happy to trust his judgement on this, whichever way he's decided to play it. IMHO, either way, we'll likely have a better squad than last season and we've exciting times ahead. I guess I just don't buy into the negativity around Bale's departure, assuming he's going of course. If we manage it correctly, it should leave us in a better position. And it looks so far as though we've learned a little on how to manage the departure of a major squad member.

Of course, this is Spurs and there's still time to replace GB with Carlton Cole.;)

Some one already did struggle.
Well, they struggled with the denial.

Not really, just think it's weird he has to prepare a statement. What good is that gonna do? Just buy competent replacements and improve the overall squad. That's all the explanation I need.

The thing is all though I'm not convinced he is going,I am open to it. If he is, good luck to him and I hope he's a success. I don't really support the players anymore, I support the shirt. I wont miss him, I'll miss his talent.
