The source of this new contract talk is the admin of spursforum.co.uk who had this to say:

Bale source is a high level executive at Spurs, whose name I obviously can't reveal, a contract offer is on the table and being considered

Anyone know anything about that forum?

Just Wonder if spurs allowed Gareth to take some time out in Marbella
was just so he could think over what he want and he has seen what we have done in the market
and this has changed hes mind, and want to take part of this after all??

Levy definitely has all the power here. If Bale stays he can't do a berbatov, modric or Suarez because he'd shoot himself in the foot. His worldwide profile has been built on the wondergoals he scores and his sponsorship is based on him being squeaky clean. If he does anything to mess with that the sponsors wouldn't pay as much. If he stays and doesn't have a blinder for us he'll be seen as a one season wonder. Levy can wait for what he wants and knows the consequences of not getting it is to keep one of the five best players in the world.

The club have been really clever about this, there are no stories of Bale refusing to play, even though we all know what's going on. We're protecting his brand just in case he stays. Win win as I see it.

I 'liked' your post but don't agree we have all the power at all. The player hasn't played for us this season. He wants to go. We've spent a lot of money preparing for his departure. We're lining up replacements. If we still have him next year there will be only two yrs left on his contract and his value drops drastically after that. If it doesn't end up in a transfer to RM then we will have to pick up the pieces of Gareth Bales heart (or so it seems). I also think the decision has already been made at boardroom level to sell, and Madrid know it.

I think we'll sell, and possibly for a fee that is not a world record, or bumped up in installments/add ons to make it look like it is. :(

If we don't sell we will probably have to announce a pre agreement for the move next season, which would be a bit levy-like. It would also give more time to competitors to start preparations (Man City maybe)... I don't think Gareth would sign another contract for a longer term now, but he would accept (and deserve) a payrise on the current term once the window closes.

I hear ya and you're probably right but the only thing i disagree on is I don't think contract length has as much to do with value when it comes to the worlds very best players. VanPersie goes for overv£20 mill in the last year of his contract. Bale will still be worth somewhere between £70-90mil next year. C ronaldo had 2 years left on his contract when he left united and still went for a world record. Bale is that good now, he wins games on his own and sells shirts.

That said I think we'll sell too but I think it'll be for a very big fee, not like Modric.

Probably took his Mrs and littlen over there to escape it all. Saves having cameras shoved in your face everywhere you go.

He took them to SPAIN to get away from it all?

Nah.

If he wanted to get away from it all he might have gone to the Carribean, South Africa, South of France or whatever ... they re all over this story in Spain, probably more so that in the UK!

no contact extension no pay rise its easy really, why would we give him more if not to protect ourselves into the bargain. saying that i think all this is academic anyway.

I'm sure it's been mentioned, but now Greg Stobart has put out an article with the deal agreed between us and Real Madrid.

I suggested the same thing a few pages back. Its a nice idea but at this point i dont think we should get tooo wrapped up in the possibility of him staying.... The chances are it will end in heartbreak. Only a week to go and there is sure to be much more news to come.

Will sign for RM tomorrow IMHO - and good luck to the lad.

ITK's and the Bale transfer are mutually exclusive.
