Morning all you dreamers and creamers out there :cautious:

Eriksen, Vlad and Lamela announced and its only Saturday morning. I think for the first time in over 5 years I may actually remain sober and sane on deadline day :D

but we will still be waiting to see what DL andFB do on the final day!

People getting worried about transfer fees.... meh....

I'm into the football - Bale's going and in his place we have 6 new players - that's all I care about...

70m/90m/world record? - That's all accountancy - I'll let Levy sort that out (he seems quite good)

At this rate, fans will be cheering/booing as each line of accounts spreadsheet is read out at the start of the season...

Money is rather important to what happens on the pitch though. That's why fans care about transfer fees.

70m/90m/world record - that could be the difference between funding another player or two.

Tottenham complete Bale transfer BEFORE YOU WORRY THIS IS MADRID, LOOK AT THE DATE!

25 May 07 19:18

Tottenham have completed the signing of Southampton's teenage Welsh international defender Gareth Bale.

Southampton said Spurs will make an immediate payment of £5m, with further additional payments that could see the transfer fee rise to £10m.

The 17-year-old Bale said: "I'm just excited to be coming to a massive club like Spurs. It's pushing forward and I want to be part of its future."

Bale had only one year left on his Southampton contract.

The youngster had also been linked with moves to Arsenal and Manchester United.

Spurs had a bid of about £10m accepted by Saints in January, but Bale rejected the transfer at that time.

Following Southampton's failure to gain promotion this season the prospect of first-team football in the Premiership at Tottenham looks to have been enough to change his mind.

"I really want to play in the Premiership," added Bale. "That's very important to me and this is a fantastic opportunity. I've thought long and hard about it and feel the time is right to move on.

"I could have gone in January but I wanted to try and help Saints win promotion. I felt I owed them that and I didn't want to move mid-season.

"I wanted to keep my focus on learning and developing my game at a critical stage of the campaign."

Bale made his debut as a 16-year-old last year for Saints - becoming the second youngest to ever play for the club - and this season he has become a regular for Southampton and Wales.

He became the youngest Welsh international when he played against Trinidad & Tobago in May last year, setting up a late winner.

Tottenham sporting director Damien Comolli said: "We have been following Gareth for a long time now and have been very tenacious, so we are absolutely delighted to get him here.

"He's a player of great quality and, as we always say, our aim in each window is to improve the quality of the squad. He has the ideal combination to become a top, top player."

We've had ITK saying the fee may not be a world record, but the add ons make up for it.

I wouldn't get too caught up on the actual reported fee.

Wouldn't it be fun if Real pulled out now? Just think of the fire sale at WHL
- Just Curious, Somewhere Up North, 31/8/2013 9:09

I actually heard this rumour about a fortnight ago, that Real were desperately trying to ensure that they did not 'upset' Ronaldo by removing his 'world's most expensive player' tag. I dismissed it as rubbish believing that not even pouting, posing, self-loving, Ronaldo was that pathetic. Now it would seem that it is true !!!!!

It would be so funny if they pulled out now and Spurs were left $100 million in the red... Id laugh.

He'll be a Man Utd player within 2 seasons

Utterly disgusting considering the financial state of the Spanish economy and all the resulting hardships for its people.Bale had just one really good match and many where he was only average. So for this 'star?' they have to further their already deep debt by securing further bank loans and possibly selling off 'assets' in the form of players .As for Bale's antics the past week I can only agree with the comments of Harry R. made a couple of years ago when he said to Bale, 'be careful your head is getting so big you won't be able to get through the changing room door soon' Now this circus seems to have reached the grande finale (at last!) we can sit back and see just what happens.

The Spanish Govt bail out Real Madrid but let their own people homeless and no jobs. Money raised for a housing project for the poor was used for Real to buy Ronaldo instead.

It is >80mill GBPs but part of the deal is NOT to admit it because poor little Wonny's ego cannot handle it. He is a wonderful footballer but should wear ballerina clothes fr being such a prima donna.

I have a feeling bale is going to live to regret this! He had competition in England and them games are the exciting games only really 1 team in the Spanish league that will be competition. It will also be interesting to see how he plays with players that are better than him, he was the best at spurs and the best for Wales! He won't have every chance to take a free kick either!

Why would any sensible human being or organisation pay an obscene amount of money for a one season wonder like that ? It's just plain insane and stupid . Very stupid and insulting in periods where Spain has one of the highest unemployment rates in Europe yet these fools are paying 100million euros for someone to kick a bloody ball . This world has gone insane

Cheap at 78 million?! Overpriced, I think. I just hope he makes it at Madrid (a la Macmanaman) and does not do a Michael Owen! Long is the list, of players that have failed, due to the millstone of a heavy price tag! Spurs, on paper at least, appear strong - will have to wait to see how the new signings gel. Sunday can't come soon enough!

Hope that's true. There's no need to risk looking Ronaldo. He might go because of all this Bale mania, especially if a Tottenham nobody breaks the record fee. There's also no need to feed Bale's oversized ego. He hasn't proven good enough to have one.

I think the fee would be lowered to keep Ronaldos hair all in one piece.

Just means that we will get Coentrao or whoever in exchange at a lesser fee ... Swings and roundabouts come to mind ... im off to the park ... weeeeee

I suspect the deal will be structured in a way that allows Real to report having negotiated hard to get him for less than Ronaldo, and that also allows us to argue it was a world record. £78m up front would be very useful and is worth more than e.g. £85m spread over 4 years. Throw in first dibs on Coentrao and/or a loan that we wouldn't otherwise get and we've got a great deal, worth more than Ronaldo's fee and more beneficial to us.

We'll most likely never know for sure and this transfer has educated many of us (it certainly has me) on how hard it is to ascertain the true value, in NPV terms, of any transfer.

Which leaves it as simple as this: if Levy accepted the deal, then it was a better option than not selling and was the best we could get in terms of maximising return and being able to use the returns. All IMHO and so what if that makes me a BSoDL ;-)

sad I know, but I remember where I was when we signed Bale. Sat in my mr2 waiting to have it cleaned at a hand car wash at Lakeside.
Very hot sunny summer day iirc.

Question is a apart from possibly a payment for the full amount what is in it for us to appease ronaldos ego? Don't get it. Unless we get Morata/Rodriguez and Coentrao

possible cheaper players.
possible image rights percentage (this is where my money is, as it was why we didn't want to sell cheap and where we could get near the 100m magic number)
possible larger sell on clause.
possible first refusal.

One of the Sky Sports presenters was live on SSN earlier and held up one of those scarves (they're not official RM). Would love this move to fall through just to see other fans convinced that we'll be financially ruined.

Another reason to delay it...........C***s

They really aren't doing themselves any favours at all.....

Even though it's not ' official' merchandise from RM, they should be carting the people who are selling it off the street until the deal is done.....

Can see Levy getting more and more pissed off.....
